Are his parents show dogs? You can get a better price if that is what concerns you. But after looking at that cute lil guy I'd pay twice that. Dogs are great and the joy he will give you over the course of his time with you will be priceless.

Why not adopt a dog instead of buying?

Just don't support these "designer" dog breeders.
Labradoodles, Puggles, ect..
Although the dogs are gorgeous, they discard the ones that do not have ideal traits to kennels and what not. Make sure you go to your local animal shelter or humane society, plenty of mixed breeds there with tons of good traits and often partially trained already.

Go to dogbreedinfo.com to look info on common problems as well as temperment and tips on raising different breeds. I believe in adopting strays as well but I can tell you when I finally am in a position to get a dog it won't be from a shelter. I have my heart set on getting a Clumber Spaniel. They are awesome dogs. They are pretty rare in the States and cost an arm and a leg(1200-2000 depending on the parentage). But if breed doesn't really matter please do adopt.

Adorable!
The most expensive thing w. having a dog is not buying but having it, vaccination, insurance, replacing your old shoes with new ones after they get chewed to pieces etc etc.
I can't see any reason that you would wanna try and a cheaper dog. If it has a good pedigree that price sounds like quite a bargain to me.
Is it gonna be your first dog?

Love those dogs until they get like a year old, then you have a horse on your hands.

NO THEY ARE NOT. They are huge but they are big ass teddy bears. Real laid back temperment and great with kids. Now you wanna talk menacing looking and just as potentially viscious as their look check out Akita's. Japanese dogs, very loyal to their masters and can be really viscious with other dogs.
@ Rich: Check out dogbreedinfo.com they have all the breeds on there and I'm sure you will be able to find the one you are talking about.

Shepards are probably the most versatile all around dog breed. Very loyal, great protectors, very good with kids and very sweet dogs. I love them.

Absolutely. I think Shephards sometimes get a bad rap as being mean or vicious by those that have never owned one and know nothing about them......JMJ [ April 13, 2005, 05:37 PM: Message edited by: JMJ ]

Agreed. I understand the bad rep though, I think it's partly because they were overbreed at times and some people was more concerned about having many litters and making money than finding good homes for the pupps as well as choosing the right parents. Since the shephard is so dependent on his master it can easily go wrong. For most of the shephards, the masters word is law.. and if it's a weak dog with a unconfident owner or a dog that don't get to work enough so it has to figure out things to do themselves.. then you have a problem. Since my mum breed Shephards they are very close to my heart, there are very few that I would like to take home with me though (reason above). Probably cause I know fairly well how I would like both the exterior and the temperament if, or should I say when I get one - cause I think my next dog will be one. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

You're right about the dependency factor. My mother trains and breeds Shephards as well (for roughly 20 years now), so I've seen what you speak of first hand......JMJ ![[Smile]](smile.gif)
