I started making an inventory of my collection at www.discogs.com (http://www.discogs.com) .
This is a pretty nice tool to use and you can catagorize your records by cat.number, artist, and the label.
Just thought I should spread the word. Try it out.
There are alot of incomplete listings from record labels so you're input will help people identify records that they might want.

Registation is easy.
Once you start looking for stuff in you collection, simply add each record to your list. There's also a "Want List" for records that you're looking for.
The search also displays who has a particular record and you can view their inventory also.
My username is "foulsoul" and you can look and what I have and don't (and that's a big "DON'T").
Strictly Rhythm, Cutting, and Nervous have many listings.
Peace
I think this is a great tool too. I go to it A LOT to find out more about artists. Do it, do it, do it. Knowledge is a good thing.
I go here often as well.
Its a good way to trade/sell/buy also.

Groove how long is it taking you to enter say 100 records? And can our database of tracks be downloaded to our machines after completion? Or does it have to stay on their server...

I already have over 500 records in my database and I only started friday afternoon. The easiest way to build your database is to do a querie for Labels and Artists. Be careful, for there are some releases that have been on singles, when you're actually trying to find a double pack or a cd.
Have fun.
Peace

It is a very good tool, however it does have it's downfalls, i recently (two weeks ago) entered a load of tracks that were missing, they are still pending being put on. Apparentlky there are about two people who have the power to upload original entries, there are also moderators who discuss what should and shouldn't go on.
For an example of how it doesn't work, look up Kerri Chandler, he has about ten different entries.

etc etc.
You should all check it out though, the more users the more comprehensive it becomes.
Hmmm ...
I'd better get in there and consolidate that info.
