Interesting/chilling article in today's NYTimes about the mainstreaming of plastic/cosmetic surgery. Likening the payment plan options available to "buying kitchen remodeling" or financing a car, the Times reports that one-third of people considering plastic surgery have incomes below $30,000.

What do you think about the mainstreaming of cosmetic surgery? Do you think in 10 years time we're going to see another collapse in the credit markets because of tons of loans given out for plastic surgery to people who could not afford them? What does plastic surgery say about what men and women consider "beautiful," and what our culture and society says about aging, youth, and what's considered "healthy"?

I have a 3 cousins that went to DR for lipo but they get back here and change NONE of their eating habits so they are right back where they started from.. One of them is going back to do it again.. :jpshakehead:

Just wondering, does anyone know anyone whose body has really aged (e.g. crepey skin, loss of muscle tone...the kind of body you might have at 65+) AND has plastic surgery, especially implants?

I'd really like to see what implants look like in a 60 year old. We don't know how plastic surgery will look on people as they age. What amuses me is how people are obsessed with holding on to their "looks" but have no idea what this may do to them in the future. Just a random thought...

I can admit I've thought about getting some surgury.I would love to have a six pack.

Even when I was my fittest,I still had a belly.Been like that since I can remember.Never totally flat.

It makes no sense to not have a proper regimen in place before getting surgury to me.Especially if it's lipo.

I'll just work on getting me an ab lounger and call it a day..lol.

i was recently involved with a middle eastern woman...her whole family was obsessed with plastic surgery...the sisters would all sit around and watch every plastic surgery show on tv and medical channels...they would even record the shows to watch later...if i criticized this in any way i was the crazy one and apparently it was pretty popular over there in that part of the world...mind you, they all discussed getting it and i can assure you none of them needed to...

something like that to me, would be fake, no? a six pack to me represents hard work and getting to that point, being healthy etc...if you just got it 'done', its fake...no work involved, no health regimen...
