View Full Version : What podcasts are you listening to on the regular?

CASAMENA

I love having a dope mix or show in the background when I am cookin' or doing whatever. My iTunes has a few shows that I rock on the regular.
What are you listening to?? Let a brother know.

in no particular order:

Giles Peterson Worldwide:
can be hit or miss for me, sometimes it's dope other times it's plain boring... more of a Brownswood podcast lately. I couldn't find it in iTunes, so I don't know if it's still up. (Last episode was 8/1/07)

CASAMENA Radio Hour (http://podcast.casamena.com):
Well I don't really listen to it, but Dezi rocks out to it with the baby. I mostly play deep and soulful house, with the ocassional step to the techy side. I recently added the Friday Night Bembe which has more of the flavors of what I play at BEMBE. (iTunes link here (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=215250971))

Kenrick in da Mix: (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=253603342)
This show plays deep and soulful house music, and it's updated with episodes on a very regular basis, which I know is hard to do. Nice work!

Yoruba Soul Radio: (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=207721847)
This show is quite the music education, which each episode I am turned on to at least two artists I've never heard of before. I just wish Osunlade would do the show more often. Beware, there is not much house played on this show, if at all.

Deeper Shades of House: (http://www.deepershades.net/)
This man is doing it. It's all about the music here. Always turning me on to new music, with the best radio voice on the net. His site is looking dope too, good work Lars.

Real Tone Radio Show (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=187512993):
Franck Roger let's us in on what goes down at Djoon Club in Paris, with live sets from Osunlade, DJ Spinna, Manoo, Quentin Harris, Mr. V and more.

Cyberjamz (http://cyberjamz.com):
Not really a podcast but I had to mention Cyberjamz, there are some dope shows here... from Master Kev to Louie Gorbea, and I try to go there when I can, but I wish these shows would download to my computer automatically, so I can listen from anywhere, anytime.

Ok, that's all for now.. there were a couple other shows, but they only have one or two shows/mixes up, so I'll reserve comment until there is more content. OK, What you got for me??

P.S. Here's what I listened to while writing this -->Soul Funktion Radio - DJ Offbeat (Brazilian Selection) (http://www.futurehistoryofhouse.com/Mixes/brazilselection.mp3)... very tasty.

Democracy Now! video podcast available via iTunes.

iTunes is a very effective way of your podcast reaching a broad audience, btw :mwink:

What's the deal with podcasts? Is it basically a way to stream your mixes with out your own server?

What's the deal with podcasts? Is it basically a way to stream your mixes with out your own server?

Podcasting is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users (from anywhere on the web) to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost. You can set up the RSS feed from your own site (server) or use a free service (easier if you don't want to set it up and maintain it yourself).

I and a few others here on dhp use a free podcast site at www.podomatic.com (http://www.podomatic.com). You can sign up for a free account or a Pro account for $9.99 a month. The Pro accounts gives you more space, more download bandwidth, advanced stats, no ads at the top of your page and more options on how you want to design your page (they have an editor or you can insert you own code if you know how to design websites). I was using the free account but since I do a 2 hour internet show each week then post it on Podomatic I started running out of space. I could have deleted older shows to free up space but I wanted my subscribers and new visitors to have access to past shows; so I went Pro. If you are only going to post shorter mixes every now and then the free account gives you enough space.

Podomatic tells you your RSS feed for your podcast (free or Pro). You can then copy and paste your RSS feed into the iTunes store and other pod catchers all over the internet so listeners are able to stream your mixes, download them or subscribe to your podcast. When they subscribe every mix you put up will download to their iTunes podcast section automatically.

Let me know if you have any questions.

and you get cool email (or whatever) messages from random people like this one (from Ohio, of all places):

-----------
Dave ~ Wanted you to know that my husband is now a certifiable Dave Russell fan! Your podcast mixes are awesome, and we both listen all the time. Great office background music!!!!!
-----------

Now, I must admit I chuckled at the "office background music" line, but got really/seriously honored (and slapped myself for thinking/being an asshole) that peeps have more applications for House Music than imagined (and my imagination is pretty fuckin big) :rofl5:

stay tuned to deepershades!!! a really good one is coming up soon :biglaugha:

esp. since I'm offering the 2nd hour now for download as well, if the guest mix was recorded EXCLUSIVELY for Deeper Shades of House ..

thanks for the mention, Carlos and the shouts ..
Since I started the podcast, I've got a lot of my old European listeners back and a lot of people who listen to my show on XM, download the first hour to listen whenever and wherever they wish.

I'm reaching approx 9.000 downloads / week which is not too bad and am planning on building on that .. (hence my motivation to syndicate on diff. online stations to reach other regions) ..

peace, lb.
