my earliest collection of ghetto house is from the early 1990's. dj's like paul johnson, dj chip,dj funk and most of the records the come off of dance mania( a record label that came from a record store called barney's- yeah, all chicago). the youngster back then would call the dancing footwork(much faster than jacking to match with the bpm's of the music). the music would later become juke(or jook) music- same concept but changed the name to be somewhat not to be associated with house.

I think you may need to hit me off with this. I used to have a TRUCKLOAD of early Dj Funk stuff right before he made the "major" labels and released his stuff independently. They were all on tape so now they are long gone. If you manage this, hit me up with the link tomorrow. :-)

That would be sweet. Now that I think about it, a friend of mine has an old DJ Funk mix from the early 90's. I am going to ask if I can "borrow" it and possibly make a copy. I'll send it to you as well along with that package we spoke of if she comes through for me.

i went and saw him at the fairgrounds in memphis in 1998 or 1999 and i thought the bass was going to bring the whole building down.

werk it werk it (uhhh ohhh) werk it werk it...

Still my favorite, and guaranteed to bring out my inner stripper.

Speaking of which, remember when shake and booty dancers of all types moved to this, rather than rap? Ahhhh, the good old days...

Guys, Ive only ever heard this music played here ONCE by a mate at the beach parties we throw. I FUCKEN LOVE THAT STUFF!!!

Its soooo unbelivably rare here, you reckon I could get like, a list of the best songs of that genre cos i've been wanting to get into it for years and don't know where to start.

Actually i've heard it played at techno nights here also, but very very rare. Here theres like 1 Dj who occasionally drops a ghetto track into his set. Ghetto here is more like, Jackin stuff. But I'm tellin yas, I wanna get into this music. Speed Garage as well, I absolutely love that kinda stuff, I'll love yas for ever if you cna give me any help of where I can get vinyls and stuff of that genre. Or even titles and artists etc, cos i wouldnt know where to start.

I first came across it on this documentary by lara lee, called modulations and theres this one bit where a guy is getting interviewed then after the music comes louder and this chik goes

LET ME SEE YOUR DICK LET ME SEE YOUR DICK then it goes PSSSSSSST THAT ASSSSSS and kicks in with like LET ME SEE YOUR DICK .. Thats the song that made me always wanna know more about that subgenre, if you could tell me even that song and artist, I'd be wrapt!!!! :D thanks guys

Ahhhhh yes! One of my favorite sub-genres of house! It's just fun. No soulfulier-than-thou (lol), just werk and bang it. Now I couldn't listen to it all nite, but it's nice to hear a lil' mini-tour within a well rounded nite of dancing. Remember when house music used to be fun AND crazy? Well i most certainly do.

phyllis i totally agree on what you're saying. im not into ghetto house anymore but i do respect the cultue that derived from it. and im looking for some not-so serious house at the moment myself.
