Is it a full moon or something....folks need to pinch and pull....take a deep breath, turn off the computer, and go participate in the real life.

I agree Ray ... you see the "worst dance music" thread? what an affront.

I'll just say I was happy to see Shalewa and Jahsonic's responses in a certain thread. I was getting a little tired of seeing the n-word over and over, even though some of the points made were certainly valid. I can't see where the use of that term served any purpose other than to inflame. The same points could have been made, perhaps more effectively, without its use.

** WARNING -- COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC:**
Do you know how the term "debug" came into existence? I got this straight from the creator of the term herself, Admiral Grace Hooper.
Seems the Admiral was in charge of running Eniac, the first supercomputer, down in Florida. Back then (for you younguns) computers were room-sized and ran on heat-producing vacuum tubes (hence the convention of keeping computer rooms very cold). Well, the computer went down one day and no one could figure out why.
The Admiral told the Marine sergeant working for her to go into the back of the compute and see if he could find anything wrong. After some time, the computer came up. When the Admiral asked the marine what he'd done to get the computer up, he said found a bug stuck under the contacts on one of the tubes. He removed the tube and the bug, cleaned the contacts and put the tube back in and, lo and behold, the computer came up.
The Admiral's response: "Oh, so you debugged the computer." And, voila! A new computer term was born!
Just thought I'd share.
BTW, Admiral Grace was one of the nicest people I have ever met on God's green earth.

-G </font>[/QUOTE]No, I most certainly did not AND I resent the implication  (That's the closest I could get to a righteously indignent icon. Just imagine me with my arms folded across my chest, turning my back to you. Got that image? Good! Let's continue!)
I met the Admiral both when I was stationed in Pensacola and again at the Pentagon. She told me this out of her own mouth standing on the G side lobby. Ask Sgt. Breezewood (FPS). He was there!
Besides, I think this story is on tape somewhere. I'll see if I can dig up a link.
See, G, once again YOU have me putting my work aside for the sake of the DHP! graemlins/cheering.gif

You know, G, as a computer professional, you ought to be ashamed of yourself for not knowing this. Or is it that you just don't want to give a woman her due? graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

See, G, once again YOU have me putting my work aside for the sake of the DHP! graemlins/cheering.gif WildI, That term came from my days as a WANG Administrator. We had giant cockroaches in our computer room which was in the old Medical School building. We had problems one night with some terminals not connecting so when I opened the CPU , low and behold there was a nest of roaches in it. I proceeded to "debug" the machine. My aunt Mya Angelou was visiting that day so you can ask her. I created that term. graemlins/acclaim.gif
