Like I already told a few of you... I've got the right place to organize a party, a hughe basement(underground!) Monthly we got a great techno-event but I wanna real houseparty. I've tried it a few times but it's hard to get to the right people with that concept. If you guys have an idea, let me know, I'm sure we can work things out. This offer lasts for a lifetime, so feel free to do what-and-whenever you like. I just want it to be a succes! We mean, we don't want extra money, we only want loads of people who have the time of their life! Respect.

i'm here martin..

hey Funq

I've just checked your site.. it looks more then decent, that spot..and I had no clue you did invite so many dj's already..

My advice : the best thing is to get a US/UK dj from the DHP ..Add some Belgian house/deephouse talent to it, and you got yourself a very very interesting cocktail...

The DHP is a big reservoir of fantastic dj's..If you need some advice on who to choose, I would be happy to help you out.. smile.gif

And you can be sure we will direct some party people into the direction of Rijkevorsel.. No doubt..

What do you say ?

peace

Hey Funq,

As Lyot will tell you the Kinky People gang (www.kinkypeople.be) is always ready for more parties, but I propose we get together to discuss it, 2hrs of face-to-face will be much more efficient than just talking about it on a message board right?

Both Lyot and myself have some good dj contacts, we have a very good designer and cheap printing possibilities and a 3000+ mailing list :D

PM time, hit me with your contact details! (phone'n stuff)

hey lyot, another belgian here, youngster in da house scene. Thanx again for the list of records you are selling, however I have all the ones that I want from that list allready in my possesion....if you got any more don't hesitate to mail me at koeneken12@hotmail.com . You offer very fair prices !

as far as parties are concerned, we all know belgian is allmost saturated with house. Especially for me since I live near Antwerp, house capital of belgium. You can usually find me at 'Club Geluk' - dopest club in belgium if u ask me.

peace dudes ! hey Kuhn !

happy to see you've registered overhere ! We can't have enough Belgians spreading the deephouse vibe.. smile.gif ..I'm curious to see what that new Natural club is gonna be like..i will not make it there this weekend, but I already wrote Groove Merchant and said he should consider bringing over DHP dj's.. Well, if he really is willing to revive the vibe of Paradise Garage , Shelter, Body & Soul, he's not gonna succeeded with only the West Coast dj's..Allez, that's my humble opinion.. ;)

You should already note august 9th in your agenda..There's gonna be a Belgian/european dhp gathering in Deinze (Jockey's Café)..It's gonna excellent moment to meet a bunch of DHP'ers...Write it down.. smile.gif

greetings

Thanks for the promotion Lyot ;)

But indeed, I really want all Belgian DHP-members to be there that day, as there will be members from all over Europe and maybe even from across the pond?

Let's work on this one with everybody!

Oh, and welcome Elkuhn! Although we do need to discuss that statement of Antwerp being the house capital of Belgium smile.gif

When it comes to small underground things where the music is the main attraction, it's Brussels all the way if you ask me graemlins/cheering.gif

speaking of which.. Marbll & Taija will be over in summer.. I already told them to adjust their plans in such a way they can attend the 9th of august gig..

Kuhn , i've got some other records waiting to be sold/traded...I'll hit you with a list next week.. I'm too occupied with studying some exams on the moment..

about bxl i know one thing : i can't get my fix here often lately..I'm looking forward to Le Gazon parties in summer though..I hope to be able to co-organise something with these fellows..

True dat Lyot, last couple of years I almost exclusively get my fix on DHP-Belgium related parties, but what I meant to say was that Brussels is still very open-minded for the things we play (Athanor, Pablo's, Dali's), you surely can tell from the crowd reactions.

Ghent is a bit more difficult, although it may be because people need some getting used to.

Parties and concepts are still too busy with the latest hype-stuff and play one type of music all night long. Funny thing is that both Fame Sucks and Kinky People get very good reactions on the diversity and selection of their music, so maybe it is indeed simply a matter of being exposed to the good stuff.

But if we need to count on Belgium's 'dj stars' to spread that vibe we're better off setting up our own events. For that matter I wouldn't count on Groove Merchant, all credit to his accomplishments but as a dj he has always bored me with his selection and I don't think he's in our league of music.

RD red

you are right .. There still is a more then decent amount of people in Brussels who are open to all kinds of music..Dali's & Pablo's will never cede to promote that stuff..

but what i really meant to say was that (it's an impression though) I think less and less house is being played in Brussels over all..It's probably going in cycles, so no panic of course.. smile.gif

Ghent was, together with Antwerp a trendsetter in the whole electro hype.Brussels isn't as hip as those two cities, that's why that vibe only seems to reach the capital right now.. Nothing really wrong with that, but it seems to diminish the amount of house that's being played...The most important organisation in Brussels now is Cosy Mozzy's Blow Up..They are also focussing more on the electrocash things.. Well, I hope it doesn't sound like a complaint, because I have to add immediately that I should better organise something myself in order to promote disco/house a bit more..

Now that Blow Up is gonna leave Athanor, i'm gonna contact those peeps in order to see if we can do something once a month on a saturday..Fridays are okay, but it's really difficult for me with my work to do it on the first evening of the weekend..

It seems that it's gonna work out well with the guys from Le Gazon ..I'm really looking forward to that..They have an awesome spot to do parties, and , if the weather's good , a +500 crowd...I wanna hear some disco being played there.. smile.gif

Furthermore, i haven't heard Groove Merchant that much, but when I did, i was never really disappointed...Okay, maybe it wasn't 'gritty' enough sometimes, but I think he can help the house community a lot if he would focus on the right stuff..Imagine him programming Lil Ray or someone else (he's talking in his posting to revive the Shelter vibe, no)...Man, that would be awesome..I would love to see that happen in Antwerp. No offense to people who like that sound, but I do not understand why he refers to labels as Paradise Garage & Shelter and at the same time programs West Coast dj's..

greetings;

greetings; I think the word 'marketing' comes into play here... Can't know for sure, but if you do talk about Shelter and PG then you should have the music and dj's to back it up.

If you need (Kinky) help for Athanor, we've been looking for some 'Brussels-possibilities', we need to talk about that one!

'Le Gazon', is that DJ Funq's organization/spot?

RD </font>[/QUOTE]word on the 'backing that up' statement.. That's why I wrote to him and advised him to engage some DHP's dj's...Damn, the least i can do is make him aware of the fact that there are actually dj's who both went to Paradise Garage (so who do know the spirit) and play that kind of sound nowadays..

Yeah, i would like to see some cooperation at Athenor...We should talk about that.. It's no work at all and if we could combine forces, we could easily have a joint monthly event where we could invite a US/UK dj without any risk. As long as big part of the evening is filled with disco, i'm on with this.. ;) ..a weekly event, i guess, would be overstretching my capacities.. smile.gif

Le Gazon has nothing to do with Funq..It'free parties organised by the 'Boups' guys.. Near the administrative center of Brussels ( outdoor parties, on a stretchd out 'grasperk'..).Very special, and if the weather's nice, the best place to hang out in Bxl in summer.. (given the fact that no one wants to go to a club when it's hot)..

i was suprised when i first played there and Barchon

when i played liege the dj before me was banging out so my first record i had to play at +6 just to keep the tempo, but i brought the vibe back down to a normal tempo

i think that good house is kinda like a new thing there for them but they enjoyed the music, they asked me to come monthly so its all good!

i don't have the link for Le Gazon on the moment. But i think it's not even up yet, that website..(it only said whether the 'Gazon' was open or not (and it had some meteo previsions if i remember correctly..)..

It's that record from Sean Smith if i'm not mistaking ..And I have got a double one from Rahaan too, so i'll give you that one too ..

I'm not sure if i'll be in Brussels by tomorrow afternoon, but are you gonna go to Urban Grooves ? I play anything going from jackin Chicago tracks to NY/NJ vocal house (Jovonn, Kerri, Blaze, etc) and older disco and soul cuts with some Detroit techno thrown in.

Favourite house labels include Prescription, Moods'n'Grooves, Trackmode, Shelter, Dance Tracks, Cajual, Underground, Trax, KDJ, Sound Signature, etc.

Check our site www.kinkypeople.be (http://www.kinkypeople.be) and Lyot's www.famesucks.be (http://www.famesucks.be) , that'll give you a good idea I guess.

Yo guys, don't forget this lone ranger, I wanna get involved bitches! :D
Ok, seriously, think twice before hooking up with groove merchant, the man is a backstabber.. invited me once to play in the salon and then started to use my name in his Mag as I being one of the plastiks dj's without my freaking permission, he even claimed that you had to book me through him...
He gets all the promo's and stuff 'cause of his magazine but still sleeps on every good record... the man has done something for the scene with his magazine but he's a shark and just wants to get attention...

just my 2 cents...

24 May | The Return Of The Legendary Vibes Ahead (Acid Jazz Nights):
K.Bop (Vibes Ahead), Peter Boonen (Soul Movement), Groove Brothers

31 May | Insoul Sessions Vol 2 Launch Party:
West Of Centre (UK, Inspirit), Phuturistix (UK, aka Zed Bias/Hospital), Groove Brothers

7 June | Mukatsuku Night
Nik Weston (UK, Mukatsuku PR), Nikolai (USA Import), Groove Brothers

damn just happens that august 9 is allready noted in my agenda as the night I have to spin somewhere in Ghent... :( just my luck , well just need to wait for another fame sucks I suppose well, you are right about that West Coast remark of mine.. that was too generalising graemlins/spanka.gif ..but my point was more directed towards the Paradise Garage and Shelter remarks in the promotional
email he sent out..I still see some discrepancy between the dj's he programmed and the vibe they are willing to promote.. smile.gif

jeugdhuis ??? loooooooool (I used to spin at one like 2-3 years ago when I just started and I was 17-18 (edit: not really sure) - now I just hate those ignorant rock and so called 'alternative' hippies there...very narrowminded folks often - allthough I did get to play next to buscemi as well one day, very nice guy with nice wide record selection throughout all kinda styles, but he CANNOT BEATMATCH (allthough he knows it and you dont notice that he cant mix, he just switches at the end of one record to another...better that way than let it trainwreck for a while like I've seen many others do)

anyway, I have a pretty cool party room near my place in Beveren where I will be doing parties this summer, will keep u updated (want to have a lot of 'unkown' belgian talents - but I can't have them all now can I...)

now back to studying I go

and about Natural, well I still need to take a look myself (I think it's opening night with Andy Caldwell this weekend from OM, but I have to spin as usual). But I'm told they will aim for a more 'high class snoby' crowd, with the lounge downstairs turned into a real sigar bar (fo shizzle !)

most of them don't have the money or transport to go to places where they play (for our ears) decent music. next to that alot of crappy techno is being played at those places too. i think that everyone is allowed exposure to all kinds of music, doesn't mean they have to like it.

yeah, it's getting even more hilarious after a while.. Just wait untill Rahaan meets that guy on the streets when walking to the party.. graemlins/rofl.gif

most of us speak Dutch, but my girlfriend Francesca is a native French speaker ..

Actually, none of us knew this was going to end up on the internet..I filmed most of it on the party, and is sometimes really messed up (the filming)..I would have taken more care if I had known..

smile.gif

the last 20 minutes is footage of Rahaan's set..I didn't really film a lot when most people where there..It got really crowded at a certain time.

the movie is great. check us rolling up the fat ones at the table. rahaan's camera stability was very good compared to the state he was in. to be honest i really didn't notice until he was asleep (i slept for the last hour myself). i never heard someone in that state play so good (again you couldn't tell). lyot, if we do the belgium thing this is one of the guys we have to get back!

hey lyot you got exams this weekend not me ! I only start 10th of june graemlins/cool_shades.gif

by the way do any of u belgians spin in either Ghent or Antwerp like me ? would be cool to hear ya play, like someone said here before, u only know a person when u hear his music...

now chilling and picking out records for tonight....listening to mos def's black on both sides...ass so fat that u could see it on the front....muhahahaha, why did I stop buying hip hop vinyl ? oh that's right, I got this house habit that is out of control...the precioussssss.

on a less mental note, do any of u guys have mp3 mixes somewhere ?

I got one online but I don't think u guys will dig it, prolly too funky/techy - dancefloor minded mix, cafe d'anvers style. try anyway if u want at

check it out:

http://www.bino.be/djkuhn/kuhn%20-%20obviously%20not%20good%20enough.mp3

right click -&gt; save as

funky house to tech house (some pretty old stuff I know - but never used them in a mix before)
so, am I obviously not good enough ?

01 swirl peeps vs East Coast Boogiemen - double deuce EP (Amenti)
02 momma's homecooking dish 1 - heartbeat
03 swag - no such thing sampler
04 natural rhythm - the jammin' ep
05 chris lum - return of the big tool
06 chief rocker - fathead
07 da sunlounge - use me
08 barrio brothers ft onionz and joeski - flippin' it
09 rocket - people
10 hipp-e - down on me
11 j-grau - mongo ye
12 dano, chus and ceballos - deep architecture
13 H-foundation - da sounds of now
14 yellow sox - flim flam
15 hipp-e and tony - sonido de la celva
16 Djluz - acid tricks (Marino berardi remix)

don't judge me completely by this single mix though- I spin all kinds of house :D

David Le C

About that Groove Merchant thing, I think I went to see him at Narco the friday before the last one, also with a dj of jazzanova, personally I think it wasn't that good.
