I was at the SuperLounge Friday night and heard Timmy Regisford for the first time live. I was very impressed! graemlins/clap.gif The brother came out swingin'. It's a shame someone from another city has to come here and beat the box like it should be beat by more of us here. It was practically a DJ reunion that night. I saw so many of my DJ friends.

The club is nice, but why the SuperLounge? I'm a black man and I love sistas! I had to wait an hour and a 1/2 for the sistas to start rollin' in and then they acted like they were too cool to dance! mad1.gif Now if I would have asked one of the white women to dance (like so many of the brothas did) I would have gotten the "death stare"

Come on sistas! If you are going to a live party like that, COME TO DANCE!

Back to Timmy, Thanks for coming to Chicago to beat the box! Hopefully some of us DJs who were there (and like to play for themselves) took notes. One of our biggest DJs in the world never beat it like that (need I say the name?) and I didn't have to pay $20 to hear him.

Is anyone feelin' me on any of this????

I was at Shelter this past Saturday and he beat the living day lights out of that shit and I loved it.. but I've been beatdown many times..... don't get it twisted!!

Dude,I ain't even gonna go there with ya,but there is major talent in the Chi,you gotta know where to go and who to check out....I feel ya on the comment of some folks who needed to hear him.I can name a group of jocks who can put it down in the same flava as Timmy did here.we have been pushing this sound for a while bruh.It just took a big name cat to come to town and wake ya'll asses up.

Why do you think I wear a Shelter shirt?I know the bizness and have been screaming this shit for ages. Some folks will never get it.It has nothing to do with you personally, but that was a rather insulting comment to jocks here in Chicago who are playing quality music. There are plenty here,we just do not get recognized here bruh.Hopefully your ears have been exposed to some quality shit and now you should peep out some cats herer who are putting it down...

Hollaback I have to disagree with you on Chicago djs not beatin' it statement Its kinda disrepectful.
Also, Why not Super Lounge? The Warehouse, the Box, The Spot, The Powerhouse, the Bismark, COD's, AKA's, Sauers', Playground are all closed. If Timmy were to play at the Prophouse, I don't think you would get the same vibe or response from the crowd, the crowd would have been like those sisters that was standing around watining to hear "baby I'm scare of you" or "touch and go".
Timmy did play a great set, but can you honestly compare it to some of the other guest djs we've had or even some of the cats that are playing out every week?? Timmy was on point but he wasn't the best I've heard this year, I hear a great set every week from several djs. I think you should go out more often.

Jamie, you know I know some of the DJs you are referring to, but lately I have been going to some parties where the DJs are tired. Yes we created this sound, but some of us are getting lazy, complaicent and boring. If the shoe fits where it. I'm not trying to start something, but you know how hard it is for "us" to be entertained when we have all this stuff at home anyway. Then to come out to a party, pay $10 or $20 just to hear someone play for themselves with no regard to anyone on the dance floor.

The Shelter I'm sure is tight, but I don't frequent the club. I just wish some of the DJs I've heard would pick up the pace, or get out of the way and let me beat the box!

Unfortunately politics and who you know dictates who gets to drive the tables these days, not talent.

Feelin' me?

I even spun at many of these clubs back in the day, side by side with some of the greats. I'm refering to NOW! You'd be hard pressed to hear a DJ beat it like that at some of the tired parties I've been to lately. Yes there are DJs in Chicago that beat it like that, but where can you go to hear them?

Politics and connections keep a lot of good DJs who can beat the box like this away! I wasn't at the Shelter but I'm sure Timmy beat the box.

I'm not trying to start anything here, just trying to provoke more creativity and conversation about a topic very dear to my heart.

I only say this.. there is too much beating up on us by us. There is a party for whatever you like but don't be so hard on Chicago because you heard someone beat the box and think that we can't do it here. There are people here that can ****in' rip it and don't get the chance for whatever reason. From the original warehouse US Studio till now I have a lot of good memories and it's still going on.

Botton line is that Tim Regisford beat the hell out tha club. When you got the crowd feeling you, what else matters? Some dj's are known for playing certain types of music or going progressively in other musical directions, but the nameless dj you're referring to (who was also at the Superlounge that night) still rocks the crowd that comes to see him, whether we like it or not.

HollabackYou are no better than the Chicago DJ's that were all on Timmy's Jock. You are as big a Hater as they are.

Bougie ass Black folk trip me out. I am from and still live in the hood but Bougie people like you don't even know - when you type and discribe a race of people by a color, the first letter is capitalized IE: White = white - Black = black.

I am not the smartest man in the world but I do give credit where credit is due, Vince & Timmy jacked the box.

If Frankie don't please you, then don't pay to attend his party...but no, that is too simple to do, why...because you want to go where the so-called beautiful people go...then you wanna complain about Sistas with attitudes - - - while you are just as bougie as they are - in an attempt to be special.

The next time you get upset and wanna play the race card, look in the mirror then throw a brick in it because you appear to be bougie.

graemlins/mecry.gif The sistas won't dance with me.

Maybe it is because you were playing the same bougie bullshit game they were playing...you think? I've done the Northside of Chicago four times in the last five years. Twice for Vince and Twice for Krush, other than that there is no reason for me to be there.

what is your excuse?

Feel free to ignore the following peanut galllery aside, but...

I have it on good authority theat bourgie chicks go to the Shelter on the regular, dance like crazy and get really, Really, REALLY happy when they can sing along with records like their old favorites "Baby I'm Scared of You" and "Touch and Go". It is true that we, uh they, won't dance with no corny dudes though. graemlins/cool_shades.gif

But Shalewa, you girls (sistas in NY) also know the words to "How deep is your love" and will dance like crazy!!! Not here in Chi. You'll get the opposite reaction.

Right they will be going ughhh, why he dancing all hard. Then they would be going to the DJ booth can you play some 50 Cent. The majority of Black women in Chicago only dance to Hip-Hop and Booty House Tracks. You cut on some I Beat that Bitch with a bat and they will be running to the dance floor doing the booty bounce dance.

Glorias Muse, Tom & Joyce, and other songs are requested at Jeffery Pub and the only night they can be heard is Thursday night.

They also demand Baby I'm Scared Of You, Loving Is Really My Game, and other songs that DJ's call Sing-a-long.

Note: the only people that complain about "sing-a-long" songs are certin DJ's and not the public. I don't DJ for DJ's and long as the people are dancing, I've done my job.
