Hey Y'all,
Some sister choreographers who I hold in the highest esteem are presenting an AMAZING program of choreography this evening at Aaron Davis Hall in Harlem. I went last night (it was a stop on the Birthday Tour:wink:) and was blown away. This Woman’s Work unleashes a hybrid of dance and movement by emerging and established female choreographers from the African Diaspora. Enlightened by the works of Katherine Dunham and Pearl Primus and acknowledged in (2006) as Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch”, the ensemble presents two exciting evenings featuring a mosaic of raw, sensual, empowering and deeply rooted works by Camille A. Brown, Shani Nwando Collins, Princess Mhoon Cooper, Bridget L. Moore, Francine Ott, Ursula Payne and Makeda Thomas. In addition, see multi-talented artist Shel Riser (aka “Sonny-boy”) and his funktified Jimi Hendrix/James Brown inspired band.
