Help South Side Community Art Center Win Preservation Grant
THE OLDEST AFRICAN AMERICAN ART CENTER IN THE COUNTRY
The South Side Community Art Center (SSCAC) has been selected as a finalist for the American Express Partners in Preservation Grant.
The SSCAC is the only continuous survivor of the 100 Art Centers established nationwide by the Works Progress Administration during the 1930s and 1940s. It helped cultivate a vibrant African-American artistic community in
Bronzeville and throughout Chicago.
Funds from this grant would allow the SSCAC to make much needed renovations to its permanent collection storage facilities. This historically important collection consists of over 200 pieces of original African American artwork dating back to the 1930's.
Partners In Preservation wants your help (and your vote) in deciding which Chicagoland site should receive funds.
Visit http://www.partnersinpreservation.com/index.php?sec=vote to cast your vote for the SSCAC today!
Voting only takes a few minutes and you can vote every day until October 10th.
To learn more about the SSCAC, take a tour during their open house on September 15th and 16th from 10am-4pm or visit www.southsidecommunityartcenter.com to view current exhibition information and operating hours.
