The ironic thing is we caught a lot of flak this year because, for the first time, we had a fenced-in area, "access bracelets" and security regulating booth/stage access. I was actually against the idea because I thought it would take away from part of the spirit of this event. We've always wanted to take a "no VIP" approach to this thing (most of us anyway), and as many of you know the crowd has always been right on top of the DJ at prior Picnics. 16 years with no thefts, then this. This guy somehow slipped backstage and made his move, I guess. Reluctantly, I'm coming around to the reality that with the event as big as it is, we have to have security and restrictions.
