Greetings Doug,
We as a nation face difficult choices ahead regarding Iraq and North Korea and how to deal with their bizarre and dangerous dictators. Sadly, we have a very "dim bulb" at the helm of the American ship.
Once again the Commander in Chief clearly demonstrated for all the world to see he is incapable of original thought, or even able to follow the script that his handlers prepared for him. Unfortunately, this man is leading America down a path of destruction, both economically and militarily, and we will be hated even more, if that's possible, once his war games begin. Saddam is a tyrant and needs to be replaced, but let the United Nations due that. Fortunately, we can discuss things like this on message boards, but given where the Attorney General wants to take things, I'm not sure this will be an option much longer! These are very sad day's for America!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the unemployment figure just hit 8.5 million. I consider that Economical Violence dealt out by (Reagan)-Bush "trickle down theory."
He is such an embarassment that I find it hard to even watch him speak, so I listend to "it" via the radio (on a large system).

I heard it. Nowadays, whenever I hear this man speak, I inevitably start thinking of what country I want to relocate to, and how to get that accomplished.
It's too sad, and embarassing.

I only caught the tail end of the speech, but even in those few minutes, I felt frustrated with yet another non-information session. How many more times is he going to beat around the bush on these issues? How did he even get into office? Oh yeah that's right his brother cheated for him in FL! That whole thing... AR15firing.gif Anyway, that is old news.
I am 100% against this war. Then again, I'm against all wars.
Sometimes I think that had Gore become President none of this would have ever happened!!!

d Me, too. I'm learning a foreign language and have been doing so for about 5 weeks. In a way, I suppose that the govt. would prefer that those in disagreement with their policies emigrate to other countries...

I listened on the radio, but I did catch this:
Reporter: Mr. President....
Bush: We'll get to that....(calls another reporter)...This is scripted you know....
Everyone laughs.
Nice to see that they put that together for our benefit. Overall, I think he missed the opportunity to gain the support of his target audience; the American People. He was too focused on relaying his message to the opposition across the ocean.
"We don't need permission from anyone to take action."
"We are going to force a vote and everyone can show their cards on where they stand on Iraq."
When asked about the possibility of not getting the votes in the Security Council he replied,"I really don't care about that..."
This was another missed opportunity to re-ignite the post 9/11 patriotism that has faded in the recent months. He had small sparks of rationale for action but didn't properly elaborate. When he spoke of diplomacy he stated that "Saddam has had 12 years of diplomacy" but then he started talking about 9/11, 2 completely different issues. Then he turned right around and underhandedly acknowledged that Saddam and UBL are 2 different issues by stating that Iraq was connected to "Al-Qaeda type organizations" not Al-Qaeda itself.
Then he vasilated between "we are going to disarm him" to "there will be a regime change" and finally to "by disarming him we will bring about a regime change." Where was the explanation?
How many Americans know that Saddam has had a German gunmaker working on developing an Artillery piece that can fire over Syria into Israel since the mid-80s?
How many remember that he started the Iran-Iraq war by invading Iran after the Shah was deposed?
How many know that he invaded Kuwait for it's oil money to fund his weapons programs, not because of his claim that Kuwait is historically an Iraqi province?
Want proof of his chemical weapons? Ask the growing number of Gulf War veterans that are getting sicker every year due to exposure to fallout after destroying his bunkers in '91.
We have flown over the no-fly zone for 12 years and every day we destroy a piece of air defense equipment purchased from the French, Russians, and N. Koreans. It's against the original UN resolutions for him to purchase this equipment, but every day he has more. Did Bush bring this up? Nope. (How do I know where this equipment came from? 12 years in the Army, that's how. You are trained on Allied and Soviet era equipment recognition so you don't shoot at your allies in a battle)
Colin Powell did a much better job convincing the world of the need for action by stating facts, bringing pictures, etc. GW and his monotone ramblings missed the mark by a long shot.

He is such an embarassment that I find it hard to even watch him speak,You took the words right out of my keyboard heh, heh. It was all I could do to not throw the remote at the television. My jaw dropped open every time he did NOT answer questions that were posed to him. This whole thing is beyond a bad nightmare ... Every President and presidential hopeful understands that without a stable domestic agenda and feel good domestic policy, they can forget about another term. I don't find it at all likely that this administration, with all their ties to big business and their historic political pedigree, would near-totally abandon domestic policy on whims of personal gain. These people are already rich.
Something is going on at the global level that effects all of us. There is no way we're going to be told about it all. I have no expectation that we should be. Those concerned could better inform themselves if they chose. NPR broadcasted the UN Security Council Emergency Session today. Powerful, insightful stuff. There is a lot we don't know about world geopolitics. There is a lot we don't know about German, French and Russian economic interests in Iraq and the region. There is a lot we don't know about the proliferation of weapons from other sources than the US.
I'm not convinced about this "Illuminati"/New World Order paranoia thing. I think there is something else much bigger and it has a lot less to do with oil than we all think.
I'm not pro Bush, but can I afford to be anti-Bush? No, I don't think so. I wish him well, regardless of whatever personal axe I have to grind. Change is occurring - some folks want it, some folks don't.

Bold Soul, I sometimes wonder if some of GW's policies toward Iraq are more personnal in nature. After the 9/11 attack, Saddam made a statement that God allowed that to happen to us. He made a statement after the Challenger disaster that God allowed that to happen to us. For a man as religious as Bush, that's bound to cause some anger.
I strongly agree that GW is no puppet, except maybe to the oil industry and the money he and his buddies make. He is moving ahead at his own pace, and is trying so hard to portray that he is a peaceful, patient man. He said in his speech that he hopes that we won't have to go to war, but that day 60,000 more troops arrived in Kuwait. This is a deliberate plan. At first, the US and UK said "no compromise" but now that there are 250,000 servicemen in place they said "ok you have until 17 March." That is just enough time for the ships on the Turkish coast to make the trip around the Arabian Peninsula to Kuwait. Saddam has already said that if it looks like we were going to attack, he would stop destroying his missiles, so what do we do? We mass on his border, increase the number of sorties we fly over the no-fly zone (clearing the path to the Bahgdad), and wait. When he declares that we are are threatening an attack and stops destroying missiles, and turns them toward us, we say that our troops are under threat and hit him. Bush didn't come up with that plan, but he damn sure gave the order to make it happen. There is nothing the French, Germans, Russians, or anyone else (besides GW and Saddam) can do to stop this. The ball is rolling and there is no stopping it.
ForevernevermoRe, what the hell are you doing in Oregon?

If I was an American, I would be mortified by Bush's lack of intelligence. I don't think I can recall a world leader in history as bad as GWB at public speaking. I actually find it painful listening to him fluff his way through speech after speech.
Say what you want about Tony Blair, at least he can think on his feet. I actually also think that were it not for the power the US has over the UK in the 'special relationship', Tony Blair would sit out the UN route, partly because of public opinion in the UK and partly because he's a lawyer and realises the implications of acting outwith international law and the UN charter.

May I also say I would like to see some new Hip -Hop 50 year olds at a KRS-one American Music Awards dancing to Spank the booty by the Sons of RUNDMC.
So if its WAr let's Kick some AZz!! AR15firing.gif graemlins/OLA.gif

This was another missed opportunity to re-ignite the post 9/11 patriotism that has faded in the recent months.i think the business leaders and the local govt controllers are taking care of this. there are still many flags w/ slogans ("never forget 9-11", "we're gonna make you eat those towels on your heads!", "if you don't like it here in America then wait til it's your turn in front of the firing squad of freedom") plastered all over windows and stuff. the pickup trucks and minivans are out there too, though some suggest that having shredded flags on the car antennae doesn't look good (i have to confess, i set an antennae flag on fire in front of a "patriot" just to piss them off).
no, i feel that whoever is controlling the president and the country is still programming the minds of the masses so that George Bush doesn't have to worry about it..hell, i think even GWB can adlib the patriotic bits of his speeches. just the utterance of the word "America" is like smacking the pit bull citizen in the snout just before a big dog fight.</font>
GWB is no puppet. That we see his cabinet out in front of him is because he is an autocratic leader. They aren't his handlers. They are his clean-up crew because he shoots off without checking with anyone first.
GWB is very much in the driver's seat.</font>
hahahahahaha... that's some Bold Shit</font>
so if GWB is no "puppet" he is fully autonomous and *not* playing dumb (nuclear: it's "new-clear" not "noo-ku-ler")..
...or he working with a select group of individuals (who might be in or outside of the Whitehouse or 9overnment).
so you know that Bush jr. doesn't answer to anybody?

I don't think we have all the info on the Why, and Whats to this war but We americans must be in some kind of danger. I would hate to see us at the end of one of the Nukes we dismissed as not important enough to go to war over.
I still dream of becoming famous and that would surley ***k it up.All I will add is that I hope your right- cos your leader is looking pretty embarassing worldwide. If you get a chance, check out the cover of the current edition of German current affairs mag 'Der Spiegal'
That unfortunately sums up how other countries see the US at the moment.
