yup,

haven't really played too much the past couple of years, about 10 times a year...
i'm now dropped to a handicap 9, :(
it was hcp 5 over 10 years ago...
i should be able to play about hcp 3 when a practice a little, and stop getting mad at every shot that doesn't go exactly as i planned [i think my putter is the only club in my bag with a straight shaft...]

I only golfed once. I would like to play and be good at it, but it's a very expensive sport.

i play golf, not religiously, but i got my first eagle three weeks ago at Hains Point (DC)... hit my second shot in from 100 yds out on a par 4.
but that was fluke. i usually shoot in the high 80s/low 90s.

that is where the lessons are - hains point, did you take lessons?

300+ yard on the drive. shitty short game. yes, it's ironic.

I play pretty regularly, once or twice a week. Wish I had more time to play. I've never taken lessons......JMJ

as for hains point, it's definitely not one of the best courses in the area (rock creek golf course is a nicer public course) but it's CHEAP and the course is pretty straightforward.
definitely an addictive game, there's no feeling like crushing a little white ball 300 yards...or 3-putting from 8 feet out.

i picked up clubs last weekend and will soon be slicing my way through the LA courses.

Mark, I have heard good things about the golf lessons at Hains Point.

Personally, I hate golf. Anything that makes one so obsessive about putting a ball into a hole is suspect in my book.

I would say to each his own, but golf courses are very bad for the enviornment, in terms of taking natural space and completely changing it.

Mark, how long will your knees hold up playing basketball? You may need a back-up sport :D

I like going to the range and hitting drives but I find the short game bit dull

the short game could be fun but takes patience.. putting is hard. my first outing was 120+ adn lost one ball. sucked

No matter how badly you play, you'll make that ONE shot that will keep you coming back for more. Like bowling, golf is a sport you can play as long as you live, for the most part.....JMJ

I play regularly. Left-handed so most courses are designed just right for me. There are several nice 9 hole public course in and around Chicago. Maybe we should hook up a DHP golf outing???

Erob I'm left-handed, but unless you hook (vs. slice) the ball (which most lefties don't), you should be at a disadvantage on most courses because more holes are designed to dog-leg right than left, right??......JMJ

My dad takes me with him about once a year, its pretty fun. He has played just about every sunday for 40 years. I think I may have inherited good golfing from him, for only playing once a year I have a good swing and don't do THAT badly, usually 100-110.

-G Brother, you will be surprised at how much you learn how to drive a ball at a Golf Range and then putting at a miniature golf course. A Bucket of balls and a nice iron on a nice afternoon or just before the sunsets is pretty dayum cool... plus, you will see how you improve each time. Then when it's time to hit a real gold course, you will at least have a good idea how to control the ball. It's really addictive once you get into it. Trust me... it costs, but its worth it. And I only recently got into playing myself through my father-in-law.

Maybe we should all play Golf together someday. That would be cool. The DHP Golf Tournament of DJs

I think good golf is at least bogey golf - anything below 90 on a par 72 course

i need to work on my driving, short game and putting - other than that i rock!

I just started playing this year. Took 2 lessons in late June and they helped a lot. The best part is that I am encouraged by my job to take my customers golfing, and it goes on the good old expense report.

G-Man, I was in Madison earlier this week and played at University Ridge. Next time I'm in town I'll take you out for a round.

It's freaky that this topic came up because I had planned to inquire if anyone in the Chicago area would be interested in a forming a group. Any takers?

Peace

The first real job I had was as a caddy when I was like 11 or 12. I got some cash and lessons in return. I used to play all the time as a teen, now it's only a few times a year when me and the old man hit the links. Quality time, since I've become an adult we've definitely grown closer throuhg the game. I think that's what i like best about it now....

Played the best golf of my life yesterday! Shot an 84, which isn't great, but I was happy with it. 46 on the front, 38 on the back with 6 pars on the back nine, 8 overall. I wish I could play everyday......JMJ ;)
