doesn't matter if you ask me, make some turntables out of some old tires and rims for all I care, if you can't mix, then what's the use investing in 450 dollar turntables?

if you plan to play clubs and parties with other DJ's.
Technics are the best because they are the standard. minus well get use to the stop, pitch control and feel.
But if you're there to entertain the walls, roaches, and wall hangers. Maybe the $$$ can go into other things.
I had me crappy tables when i first started then upgraded. smile.gif

There's really no substitute. As the old saying goes "You get what you pay for..."

Before I had my own 1200s, I thought any ol' table would do. But once you've used them you can tell the difference between a 1200 and a cheap table. My best friend has some NuMarks, and they get the job done, but they don't "feel" the same.
Spend the money and get the Technics. ESPECIALLY if you want to be taken seriously as a DJ.

Thanks guys, I apreciate your comments !
I am actually playing in a bar and have apreciated the good feeling the Technics have in comparison with others.

I have got pretty much my mind made up (come on, I'll get it, get it....) already, but just wondered what you guys thought about it.

Right now I'm using SL-1800 mk2 (Most cat were too young to remember those) I switch from the 1200's to the 1800's from time-to-time. But those new Numark tables ain't no joke.

Yo are those the black and silver ones, like on that Prelude lp or are they the silver ones with the rotary pitches?I can not remember the differance,I'm bad with model numbers...

Gotta be the Technics man!

I did what most people do and started of with a cheaper pair of (Gemini) turntables. Even had a shot on some the 'tables at the higher end of the market (vestax etc) and while they have some fancy tricks, nothing IMO beats the technics for feel and playability.

Hello Vincent,
I bought a pair of Technics SL-1200M3Ds about a month ago. All the buttons and switches are aesthetically designed and very sturdy. The tables are beautiful just to look at. When I visit the local DJ/record store, I always examine other turntable models they have lying around. I play with the switches and controls. Often they feel flimsy, like they would fail with prolonged or heavy use. I also notice that some manufacturers attempt to copy certain features of the Technics. Other turntable makers playing "follow the leader" is a telltale sign of who has the best product. I was told over and over by many people that 1200s are the only way to go. I'm glad I followed that advice. graemlins/grinyes.gif

Peace,
HML

I remember starting with Radio Shack direct drive tables where the pitch control was a dial with a range of +- 3% with very little torque . Had to give the records a nice push off then adjust with either the dial or speeding up/slowing down the record. It did the job for awhile, then I bought 1200s.

i learned for 6 months on vestax pdx 2000s due to the fact i picked them up very cheap second hand.

i now own a pair of 1200s and im just starting to get used to them.

i defo think the vestax are easier to use because since i switched to the 1200s i have struglled a little bit.

my friend owns 1200s and he had no problem switchin to the vestax when he tried mine.this tells u if u can use 1200s u can use anything.

the reason i got 1200s was due to them being standard issue.i didnt want to get a gig and turn up to see a pair of 1200s or 1210s i had no experience of using so i bought a set and put to work me transferring my skillz over.

now i have had the 1200s for a little while i defo think im gonna like them better once im 100% confident on them.

as everyone above has said there really isnt any comparison.Although i loved the vestax pdx 2000s the mechanics are not the same as the 1200s and when physically cueing up and getin ure beats correct it is different. There is a totally different torque from the 1200s and i reckon it would take anyone a good few hours to get to grips with technics if they had only used other brands of decks before.
;)
i would go for technics defo!!

once u can use them comfterably have no fears about playin a gig cos most places use them!

i bought my vestax psx 2000s and a vestax 3 channel mixer for £100 ( around $150 dollars) lol

This was a serious bargain but after 6 months i wanted technics so i managed to get a swap for a 1 year old set of 1200s with stanton trackmaster cartridges.

therefore i got a set of

1200s
vestax 3 channel mixer
pair of stanton trackmasters for £100!!

This was the ultimate bargain!lol considering it would have cost me £1300 from the store! smile.gif

I'm scheduled to do a set at a lounge with the Numark's. I own 1200's. It sounds like you think there should be no problem working on the Numarks if you're comfortable on 1200's?

How do other brands of DJ turntable stack up to Technics in the feedback department? I've heard both Numark and Gemini turntables feeding back like a mutha, but nothing from Techs. I suppose it's all in how you ground/isolate them from the vibrations being emitted by the output (speakers)...

don't have 1200's; don't need them; why when they're at the club; everybody say they the best or say they used to use something different once b/4 why spend all that money; i see they got pioneer cd player that acts like a turntable; why not run out and get that to; if its the best; i'll stick with my numarks yeap the black and silver one's they'll run you about $150 ea these days a lil more than a b100 used to cost; i can think of better ways to spend my money; like pay child support graemlins/OLA.gif
