did anyone see that movie? did y'all see the coconuts doing "me no papi" in the club scene? how about that rap scene? basquiat - he was really house...that movie was surely something new yorkers should be so proud of...

I got to see it at the screening room about a year ago or so, that movie is a great way for young people to really check the vibe of the whole downtown art/music scene during that time. And great music cameos!!!

How crazy-I just saw this movie 2 days ago...
I have to say I really liked it, particularly the first half of it. Texturally very rich, and The Plastics are the sh*t....

Petit Grand Publishing published 'New York Beat' a couple of years back which covers the making of the film & has some nice stills.

oh yeah totally dope! saw it last year sometime

the james chance footage is unreal, with members of Ornette Coleman's Prime Time band backing him up.

i caught this flick about a year ago and have seen it several times since just to catch the cameos and to put the names to the faces....so it was cool to see arto lindsay (dna), lee quinones, jack white (the contortions), and i believe i saw writer legs mcneil floating around in one of the bar scenes...

apparently, although filmed in 81, the film had been lost for about 19 years.....what we see is some restored footage found in Germany somewhere -- but not all of it....of interest to me would be all of that lost footage -- especially of the Mudd Club...would love to see that....
