Funny you should say that. I generally support the independent stores, but I can't see myself paying $16.99 for something I can get for $7 less (check Target stores as well).

Nice to see she ran a comb through that head. She's shady i know someone who did her hair several times and got the report. Not that nice of a person it seems, but of course i wasnt there but her body language in interviews shows a certain degree of smugness.
This album is straight heat....

They both look different.
Here's Angie Stone's new album cover. I guess they both wanted to rock the straight hair and get away from their frows.

Yea. I heard about the divorce. Apparently, she and her husband grew apart because they spent too much time apart as as result of her music career.

I'm loving the eyes but not the bag. She should have just put that hand on her hip to complete the "come hither" look.
Can't wait to hear this album.

I enjoyed most of the album. As for her looks/style on the cover/insert...if you've heard the album, the end of "Whatever" she ad libs. She's describing everything she's wearing. There is definitely a message.

Yup...I went to Discorama on W4 St and it was sold out. I will most deffo pick it up based on the fact that I like Jill Scott alot and TAC's recommendation! He is dead on most of the time when it comes to critical listening.

Ok, picked up the album at Best Buy on Saturday (supposedly they carry a version with 2 bonus tracks exclusive only to their stores). Overall the album is similar in feel to her previous joints, but there were a few tracks that make it quite different. For one, Jill raps on a few cuts (yes, RAPS). Although her rapping is not bad I feel that it takes away from the flow of the album. The other notable point is that this album is much raunchier than her other releases. Lots of innuendo and sexually laced lyrics, but nothing vulgar ala R Kelly or the like (check out Crown Royal for some of that steam - which, btw, is waaaay too short).
Why the change? Perhaps she is trying to lure in new fans (younger folk). These two aspects left me feeling the album was a tad bit unfocused, yet I do feel it is an album worth purchasing. The reason being that, point blank, homegirl can SING! Also, the good outweighs the bad. Most of the cuts contain dope beats and strong lyrics which make it a worthwhile purchase, in my opinion. Personally I feel the stronger cuts are at the beginning of the album. The last 4 or so songs are mediocre, but may grow on me with repeated listening.
Overall grade: B

Personally I feel the stronger cuts are at the beginning of the album. Really? I though the sweet spot was in the middle(isn't it always?). The first 3 or 4 songs were terrible IMO.

Not for me, although I do agree it is rather sweet halfway through. The last 4 were snoozers, IMO.
"Only You" is on constant repeat. Also, "Celibacy Blues" really drags the album down. Should have been cut.

Not really feelin it to be honest, the first 4 songs aren't my cup of tea (4. that synth-hornalike is terrible). In the middle, there are some good ideas but way too short(!!), 8 is not very original. 9 is well played but needs a little bit of tension in it, it's too sleek, imo
The rest is ok but not very original, 14. is a sort of janet jackson track, 16 has got too much sound effects that doesn't bring anything to the originality of the track and it gets syrupy at the end. 17 is not a typical JS track, good.
