straight forward yeah? GO FORTH, ANSWER, DISCUSS, ARGUE.
I'll catch up in a minute I'm gonna have a shower first.
Danny Krivit:
I've become a real fan of Danny Krivit as of late. He's kinda smooth and keeps it real. Doesnt go too over the top with the unreleased new shit nobody knows or cares about. He keeps it very real and plays for the crowd not himself like so many others.
Will Gee:
Need I say more. He's one of the few local cats I would pay good money to go hear.

I dont have one favorite dj and those I would list most on here will never know them anyway. I look up to alot of the oldschool hiphop djs.
mmm,Just for pure taking things somwhere else and inventiveness I'll say Q-bert. I know he's not a kind of club dj and I have only seen vids and heard mixes of him- but he is on a different level to mostly everyone.
I really look more up to the artists and producers of the music djs play and at the end of the day the people on the dance floor are the most important people in a club anyway. After all a dj can play great tunes from his box, but with out a party crowd to bounce off, whats the point.

The truth! Saw a set done by him in Sweden filmed just a few weeks ago. He was rockin' some Breakbeats for about half the show and that was dope but nothing too sick, but when he gets into the mixing heavy and all that he'll convince anyone, other Turntablists included. If Q-Bert battled against every world champ there ever been including the new cats on some next shit, I'm totally convinced he would still beat ALL of them.

I'd heard the myth of that sign, I was so dieing to see if it was true. I met Frankie Knuckles when I was about 15, at a record shop down here he came to do a signing. I didn't have anything to sign accept a little pocket book thing I had in my pocket, so he signed it, shook my hand and looked at me very weirdly.
Anyways, my favourite Dj has gotta be Armand Van Helden.
Theres been alot of like, good and bad about him, also surrounding Bob Sinclar, as, I guess their cashing in on the industry right now, and particularly Bob Sinclar is just rehashing the same stuff. But, Armand Van Helden, his older music as a producer, to me was the best shit I ever heard. Even his newer stuff, alot is crap like, NYC beat I don't really like at all. But I want your soul is really good. .. But when I heard him Dj, his setts were soooooooo... Simple. ... He'd just pretty much mix in and out but then, like, use a filter and shit as an effect. And it was soooooooooooooo ... I don't know. Like when I hear it again, I think "it could of been mixed alot better" in that it sounds like he just cant be fucked, but it just works for some reason, the songs he chooses and so forth. Just has this quality, movement about it. His music and mixes don't make you THINK, you can just get straight in and dance.

I hope I'm not takin' no bait and falling into a trap again..lol..but see that what you're sayin' there is in a way you agreeing to what you argued against in that Trainwreck thread, and you acually DO realize that the mix isn't the most important..lol..but yeah I'm being an asshole now I know, my bad. Sounds to me from this post tho that you DO know a thing or two. :thumb:

Thank you. I always said, I understood exactly what was being said.
But see, Armand Van Helden, his mixes (from what I heard) didn't train wreck at all, he still kept it to a level where it flowed from song to song, and used the filtering to kind of manipulate those songs in his own way, but, see.
He sounds lazy. So so lazy in both the music he makes and how he mixes. And I don't know why, but it just reallllllllllllllllllly fucken, makes me love him.
When I hear his mixes and I hear them sounding so kinda lazy, I kind of understand because to me it makes me feel like when I'm doing a gig, and can't be bothered, and I'm just playing song after song, and the crowd is loving it and eating it, but in my own head i'm kind of like "is it home time yet?"
Bare in mind, I'm talking from the perspective of, 1 in particular set. I'm sure there are times he really gets into it and enjoys it and so forth. But also, its his WHO he is that makes me love him.. Because, he looks so much like Roger Sanchez, and Roger Sanchez looks like my elder brother, and Roger Sanchez I love also. I found an email from him that he wrote to me years and years ago once when I tried to email him and how he was saying to organis emy own nights and stuff.. That level of, taking time out for each individual I find as a massively huge bonus quality that Roger Sanchez posseses. I think he truly see's himself as a person before a Dj. But as I was saying, I kind of see Armand Van Helden as like, aaaaaaa not reallly underground version of Roger Sanchez, but, kind of like, an alternative to Roger Sanchez. They both inspired me immensely, and to be honest, I can't say 1 Dj is better than the other. I think what Roger Sanchez sometimes lacks in track selection he makes up in mixing ability, where as the opposite applys to Armand Van Helden, but, in saying that you have to understand that, its only my personal prefferance in music that makes me think that. Someone who prefers the music Roger Sanchez plays would say Roger Sanchez has great track selection.
But yeah, I kind of like Armand Van Helden because he's soooooooo... Alternative I guess. I don't know.. I've always aspired to be like him.. I've always wanted to contact him. I've e-mailed Roger Sanchez, I MET Frankie Knuckles, but Armand Van Helden is the only one after years I've never been able to, write a email to or anything. He's playing in Melbourne in December, I've bought my ticket allready. I wish I could get a demo to him one day, or even be good enough to play along side him.
I see my own Dj style as somewhat, similar to that of Djs like Armand Van Helden and Fat Boy Slim and so forth. I'd love to do a 3 way Vs set with them. I think it would be so random, and go in so many different directions and have so much variety. Arggggggggggggggggg .. I'll keep dreaming :)

A bit like asking whats your fav track/label etc..impossible to single down to one...different moods, different grooves...different techniques, different feats...here's a few of my favorites & why...
Theo Parrish - Pure energy! somehow managing to join the dots across genres & tempos. I detect he learnt a lot from Ron Hardy...sometimes very edgy but given the mixes he often attempts, kind of understandable...never short of excitement/drama...I come out of a Theo set just loving music & usually buzzing!!
Timmy Regisford - When this man hits the groove on his home patch at the Shelter, you kind of detect he & the crowd could go on for days. With a heavy bias to house music, he has the uncanny skill of knowing how to get the maximum energy between tracks, knowing when to up & down the energy or even give the dancers a breather..just a master at what he does...
Ron Trent - Whilst I have a love of most types of dance music, I've always been a house head & within that realm, the kind of house that Ron plays & produces...the deeper, more thought provoking kind. As much as I love such house music, no matter how well its presented, I find it can get a bit boring & monotonous very quickly (many of the DJ's that play so called deep & soulful house bore me to tears)..thats where Ron can get you under his trance...acute attention to detail in his selection, programming & changes between tracks...the 'musical reflections' mix released on R2 records is quite simply a masterpiece...& his live performance at plastic people last year (on his birthday) was simply magic...Ron if you're reading, get down there next time you're in london & play some more of that boogie :)
Larry Heard - I saw him in Paris earlier this year & I thought he was excellent. His Mr Fingers music mixes along with Rahaan's are the one's I always rush to download online. I love his technique of getting the best out of each track & instinctively knowing when to drop the next track. A DJ who plays a lot of lesser known gems always playing a healthy mix of past, present & future. Quite simply one of the most open minded DJ's out there. Larry is a hero to me both as a producer & a DJ.
Gilles Peterson - He can mix but most of the sets I've seen him play, tends to stick to just blending tracks but he knows what to play & when. As FK pointed out in the trainwreck post, selecting tracks when not mixing can be even more of a challenge but I've never been bored with any of GP's sets...again he's a master of timing & controlling energies. His xmas party 5 hour set at PP last year was a music lovers dream. He covered just about every genre possible & it all made sense.
I'm only 30, so have only got to hear recorded sets from Larry Levan & Ron Hardy but of the older generation, these are the 2 that really stand out to me. Ron's style in particular seems to have influenced a lot of the DJ's I enjoy listening & dancing to today. The Larry Levan 2xCD live at the Paradise Garage mix released a few years ago, I must have listened to over 100 times...its just magic...
& finally, a guy who I've had the pleasure of seeing play a couple of times in london whom the first time I saw him play, his party truley encapsulated me...David Mancuso & the Loft...perhaps not a DJ in many people's eyes, perhaps not worthy of being considered a club - the Loft..so innocent, so pure, so warm...so ironic....

I'd have to say Ron Hardy as well... I had the priviledge of having him introduce me to the REAL club scene at the Music Box on Lower Wacker. I'd never heard some work an EQ before or play radio songs in such a way that they actually sounded like totally different songs. He would control a crowd as well!
historically, i would have to say Frankie Knuckles.

The first dj that I ever heard play was Ron Hardy at the den one in 1975. The way he played his music definitely inspired me to dj. I must say though my favorite dj to hear play was Frankie Knuckles at the warehouse not only for his creativty of how he played his music but his music choices in records. Frankie has always had an awesome ear and always known how to pick new music. Other dj's that influenced my style were Peter Lewicki, Lou Davido, Michael Ezewbuku, Stewart Gardner from Atlanta, & Tony Humpreys from New Jersey. Now my favorite djs are Alan King, Andre Hatchett, Terry Hunter, Jamie 326 and Gene Hunt. My favorite music producer right now is Quentin Harris
