I see it taking the long road to sprouting into a much more popular and widely accepted genre. I think thatthe popular iteration of house in the future will remain deep at its core and that will be its appeal. Originality and sincerity in popular art keeps fading further and further away. People will be dying for something heartfelt and earnest to keep them from drowning. I see Deep House as becoming one of those things.

Peace please expound on the "rennaisance" you speak of.
personally, i see it die a horrible death (what markbee the mechanic said over a year ago) and DJs raid basements of 55+ year old DJs and pilfer their best-of dance labels for $1.00 a piece... I'd do that right now.

Where do you see dance music (house) 5 years from now?
..at Interview and being asked the above question. graemlins/lol.gif
graemlins/conf44.gif (crystal ball don't fail me now)
As long as there is a music I can dance too in 5 years graemlins/thumbsup.gif (which there will be)
Or, what happened in the North of England decades ago, start back tracking and find lots of forgetton music then give that music a second coming.
Peace
P.S: - now it's - Muzik Mag, Hooj Tunes.......etc going under , times are a changing once again. ;)

i retract.
i started this thread as a joke, but the positive vibe i got have made me think that there's hope. there are people out there who are willing and trying to keep this thing alive with sincerity. again, i do this once in a while, to those who have bee doing them parties weeek in and week out, keep your head up, and respect for trying. when it does come to a miserable end some day, know that you've given all you got. and that's enough.
Keep on!
go soul chicken!

I think there will be corny offshoots gone mainstream, but the stuff we all crave will remain underground and subtle.
I figure, I would have got sick of this sound by now if I was ever gonna get sick of it. House has so many faces in a historical sense, and I mean that in a good way. If you get a little numb from too many glaring vocals, its not like that means your house experience is terminated.

the music will be marketed, sold, and listened in real different ways, i give it 2-3 years for the cycle to come to where it was last during the early 90's....

it'll be a hard cycle to break, dude.
we'll see, and I am keeping a pessimistic view on it. however, i will continue to support the scene.. the silent way, by buying records on a reg.

for hedonism and edge...just look at why hip hop (in its current form) sells like it does.... smile.gif

I dont really think it will change that much in the UK.I dont think it will get any less popular than it is in this day and age than it was 10 years ago.I feel that good house music can be heard more freely in bars in Scotland than ever could before.Years ago there was only a couple of places in my town where house was played. Now there is a lot more. There is also a more open minded outlook to house music all over the UK i think. When i first started listening to house there wasnt a great variety to the house sound. This was probably due to equipment limitations back in the late 80s ect.Nowadays i feel there is more scope for sub genres of house music and i dig everyone having there own vibe they like to play.Soulful house music just seems right on a sat night in a bar or club and i think more pppl are realising that in this country. If more bars offer Djs gigs and more ppl attend the bars where the music is played then it can only lead to more records sales, more new house heads and more possible club re openings!!
HOUSE will not DIE!!Not aslong as im alive!! :D
House Will Live
As long as there are young people there is hope.
As long as the love in the lyrics is practiced so the young people can see.
As long as House remains a warm refuge to weather the storm of society's ills.
During last Saturday's Hip Hop Party (Hip Hop Kids in their 20's) flooded the dance floor during a wild 20min-House set. They had their own movements and interpretation. It was very refreshing to experience. Definitely a ray of hope!!

With people like Puffy Daddy getting in to this it may very well bring more attention to the music. I also feel with that more comercial house will be on the airwaves. Who knows maybe the masses will get fed up with hip hop and something new will take center stage..

outside of your typical 'deep" lounges/bars, decent house music gets some play in those hi-fashion and semi-hi fashion stores.

I hope that our brand of house music continues to carry the torch for quality dance music. There's been a lengthy history, the quality and feel is still there and the future will build out from here. The richness of this thing is difficult to ignore. I'm optimistic for the long term health.

When House culture advances beyond DJ culture, it will thrive again.
House is dying because its dependence upon the DJ has choked the life out of it. The music is INACCESSIBLE - from a strategic point of view at some point SUPPLY MUST RELIEVE DEMAND, but only the DJs and clubs receive the music in any timely fashion.
Everyone else must deal with local record shops who don't know the first thing about SUPPLY CHAIN and record labels founded and maintained by DJs and the chumps who jock them.
People will only "stand on line" so long before they'll choose to go somewhere else. That's what's happening to the genre. When someone keeps a Naked 12" well past its freshness date, that Oakey MP3 on Limewire starts to sound pretty good.

Remember the releases of Nenah Cherry, Ce Ce Peniston, Lil Louis and Crystal Waters? This was a hit of House's potential.

I see house music growing. I think there will be more live bands producing records/albums. That in itself brings endless possibilities to broading our music to different audiences (imho).

It's inevitable that hip hop and house will merge to form a sort of hip house not unlike the late 80's. I have lived through the death of disco and now this and I truly believe in the power of the music. The business side will re-invent itself, thank god, and we will continue on.
While a lot of the smaller labels going under put out great music, they were not always run the best they could be and that's a shame.
On the other hand, the Internet is not the end all solution to the problems in the music industry. Just like the CD is not the absolute medium for music. There will be something else emerge that could benefit us all.

House music is drum machine music from the late 80's and early 90's it's roots lie in Chicago.
I see the music getting better but the scene getting worse.

I'll add that part of the problem is the medium of vinyl (in terms of access). As cool as vinyl is and all that, we're in a transition period at the moment. I think eventually (3-5 yrs) most labels will be offering the downloadable tracks (like west end etc. is now), lessening the record co.'s overhead in pressing vinyl. And most jocks will have lighter record bags, because they'll be rocking more CD's. Of course that means marketing for labels will be extremely important (because they'll need awareness to get people to their website to download tracks from their catalogue). But as it is, house is mainly for dj's because the medium of vinyl is mainly for djs.
