Tony Humphries once stated in an interview, "never be afraid to play a commercial track." Just 'cause it's commercial and radio, don't mean it can't rock a "deep" club. Some tracks start out "club" and go very commercial. "Let The Music Play" is just one. I remember when Timmy Regisford used to rock "Got A Love For You" by Jomanda at the old Shelter. He also used to rock "Give Me Tonight" by Shannon. "Gypsy Woman" by Crystal Waters went commercial after being a massive hit in the underground - if someone in a "deep" club played it today, they might some ugly stares. These days house heads seem to have gotten so "deep" that they don't want to feel anything that's not "house." I've been to underground clubs and heard tracks like Madonna's "Get Into The Groove" and "Sudio" by Phil Collins "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson and "Set Them Free" by Sting. All of these tracks have worked. Now, if an underground jock throws on that new house-ey track by Rhiana or the track by Timbaland (both pretty good IMO), they would get looked at like WTF!!!

Ron Hardy use to play Womack and Womack and it sounded really good...
baby let he hold you
naw naw naw I need a lil more
baby let me kiss you
naw naw naw I need a lil more
I can't understand that baby
I can't understand that
I walked in the Box once about 2am on a Sunday morning and the crowd was going nuts off of that song.

"Baby I'm Scared of You" (Womack & Womack) was never a commercially successful record.

A friend of mine and me once played at a party, Pink Floyd - Money and U2 - Where the streets have no name. Those went down really good. And those aint even house.
Still 'Billie Jean' are played alot in many clubs around the world.

"Billie Jean" likely still gets played in top 40 or oldie clubs - but it used to get played in underground clubs back then, and people in those settings partied to it.
Today, I think the game has changed. In the disco and post-disco era, a good number of tracks were made for the parties or the club, and the club was where they were tested. Chances were that if a track blew up big in the clubs, then shorter versions were slated for radio play (some tracks were radio fodder only). Nowadays, radio is the testing ground (video had a lot to do with that). If it's big on radio (top 40 or commercial, that is), then folks want to hear it in the clubs.

When I decided to step away from the commercial clubs this exactly what I was thinking. People aren't coming to the club to listen to music anymore, they're coming to hear the soundtracks to their favorite videos!

yes, but its a great record. Was, is and will be. Whereas some over played records are just rubbish(in my opinion). I oftern wonder why some underground tracks dont make it to daytime as they are great records. The sad truth is most people on this planet seem to be sheep going along with whatever silly name is big at a time. I enjoy music from other times aswell as new stuff. For the most part daytime radio in UK is just audio trash- I have to endure radio 1 & 2 at work- I pop the ear phones on when I can, haha.

I wear them out all the time
I've heard a bunch in underground parties and they usually fit great. "Music Sounds Better With You" "Crazy In Love" "Take Me Home" just off the top of my head.

Music Sounds Better With You and Take Me Home are two very wise choices.
