Seriously .. not joking ....

I've been listening to a lot of their songs lately. "Superstar," "Close To You" ... aaaaah.

Kind of relaxing and sweet. Anyone else?

I don't own anything by them, and I'm not familiar with a lot of titles but I like their sound...a lot. Soft, romantic, mushy music that'll make for a romantic setting.

Hey, I like the Carpenters...

Karizma did a mix of one of their songs like last year...think it was "Close To You"...

Karen's voice is angelic IMO.

Well, let's just say that I've had their lp "The Singles" for years - it's still on the shelf

I liked a few of their songs. Karen's voice was so unique and beautiful. Such a deep voice for a small frame.

"Rainy days and mondays always get me down" She had one of those voices you could really "feel" - thought her brother sucked tho

and
"I'm on the top of the world looking, down on creation and the only explanation I can find, is the love that I found every since you've been around.................

I liked that song too.

what are you kidding me? For years, I've been saying on this board that the carpenters represent the ultimate challenge for mixing. First of all, they are so white , they are black, if you know what I mean. Second, I keep saying that the ultimate challenge (well, one of the ultimates) is to get a crowd into such a frenzied delierium (or something like that) that you throw down a Carpenters track and they just don't care. They'll go crazy to it, just because. Now has this actually happened, you ask? I've thrown down the Carpenters maybe 3 or 4 times. 1 time, it worked exactly as I stated above. That was some memorable night! The other times, I used to to clear the floor, fulfill a pseudo request when a DJ saw it in my bag (I think it was birdhouse at Darrow's 40th) , or end a party.

But I keep hoping for that next Carpenters moment!

BTW, Fatboy Slim was once asked what he listens to for leisure. He said, "not dance music. The carpenters!" that was humor, and truth, I'm sure.

Don't mean to bump this thread, but in my ongoing search for bad, BAD videos I came across this renditon of "Close To You" by WING (made famous by a certain South Park episode). I will let the video speak for itself:

i sung close to you when i was but a wee lad in 7th grade

why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near just like me they long to be close to you.......
why do stars fall down from the sky every time you walk by

just like me they long to be close to you.....

on the day that you were born the angels got together and decided to create a dream come true..

oh the memories.........
