Yo, Hip Hop Honors isn't really like that at all. On the strength, the Queen of England is behind that. It’s the Queen and her reptilian gang that's behind the media controlled Hip Hop. It’s all part of a London Corporation that is controlling Hip Hop. Oh yeah, btw the Holocaust never happened. Just keepin it real..

I saw that too. He looked really gaunt.
some thoughts:
busta didn't rap at all...and i was pissed off that "new jack swing" got more time than "wild style"...how could they have pharrell in the house and not have him come up and rap a bit on "rumpshaker"? and they supposed to be all about history...okay...
i thought it would've been real smooth had they invited the likes of ron carter to perform with tribe like they did on the album or even freddie hubbard throw down a little "red clay" for "sucka niggas" or something like that to stress the samples.
i can't imagine how snoop can sit up there with his little girl on his lap fucked the fuck up and singing about bitches and hoes.
it was a pleasure to see whodini...i would've loved to have seen more of them. remember when they were on the radio ALL the time?
this show, however, got me to thinking about rap that our parents used to talk mad shit about but will play at every function they have now (and used to then but would hide it from us), from a little get together to a wedding reception to a funeral repass, like "we got our own thing" and "the freaks come out at night"...LOL!
but phife...my god, i hope he's alright. he looks like jay dee in his last days, that's what's fucked up about it.
t-pain was HORRIBLE!!!!! trying to sing keith sweat is us trying to add 1+1. and he FUCKED IT UP!!! i mean, he sounded worse that keith...how in the hell can anyone pull that off?
p.s. it's always good to see ALL atcq in the house, ya know? jarobi never came on stage when i would go to see them.

okay...but the question of the week is:
should i be afraid of the "salt and pepa show"?
i mean, pep's starting off already in the previews with a bad, bad wig and salt is salty as ever. and then the irv gotti show...think they'll ever tell how he was bonin' his star while married (and her moms didn't think twice about what her daughter was doing as long as she was reaping tall benefits) and tried to pass her off to someone less controversial to clean up her image but she wound up getting with the wrong cat?
i doubt it.
murder inc. = the inc...lol!
vh1 keep doing this, all the black people are gonna leave bet! this'll be the question on all the birds: which one should i watch - hell date or i love new york? i say bet better get another round of college hill or baldwin hills real quick!

They need to send a film crew to document the life and times of "Rufus Simms... " I can see it being a cross between Forest Gump, the "Smiley Faces" Gnarls Barkley video, The Mack, Anchorman, Studio 54 movie, Goodfellas, What's Love Got To Do With It, Waiting to Exhale, Boomerang and Mahagony. The show will tell the story of how Rufus was the driving force behind many of songs we grew up as kids listening to. His excessive drug use. How he made Berry Gordy an offer he couldn't refuse... How he took a little girl "RX" and turned her into a world class DJ. Also, why RX had to leave after a fight in the back of Oldsmobile '98 and how she bought the Zanzibar Motel for the desk clerk that gave her a room when she didn't have any money... Wow.

I saw the New Jack swing tribute and it was horrible. T-pain was a pain to listen to, and I'm not gonna talk about Neyo and Keysha Cole . They couldn't get Keith Sweat or do a Guy reunion or Heavy D ??? If you gonna do a tribute do it right . Those new artists had no idea or clue what they were singing.

i went to mc lyte's party - shook her hand and was bout to take a pic but her bodyguard whisked her away to her double parked car. saw special ed, dres from blacksheep, herbie lovebug azor, ciara, jennifer hudson, kwame, shaggy, etc. then on sunday was UTFO performing at M1-5 and DJ Wiz (Kid n' Play), Ralph McDaniels, and Teddy Ted mixing videos. Hosted by Dana Dane. BTW NYers - Wiz, Dane, and Ralph do this weekly on Wednesdays FOR free. Relive your childhood! I had to leave early Sunday due to work on Monday - but it was still interesting to be in the presence of that much talent. I know Ralph and Wiz personally through the b.f. so that put icing on the cake.
As for the show itself -
Eve flowed better than Missy for Missy's tribute.
I was hoping Pharrell would push Lupe off the stage for giggling and screwing up Electric Relaxation. Phife's verse is like one of the easiest to memorize...how is that even possible to mess up!?
I couldn't understand a word of what TPain and Busta Buss were saying, but loved the blanket and nightcap Busta had on.
How can you honor New Jack w/o Michael Bivins? Maybe they're saving that for later.
Phife brought a tear to my eye. Apparently Phife needs a kidney transplant due to his diabetes. That jacket was 3x his size. At least homie could still stand and perform though.
It took this weekend to remind me that I love hip hop. Too bad I can't have this feeling year-round.

My son as usual made me watch the show. As annoyed as it makes me every year, it makes for great mother son bonding. Last week I put a bunch of Native Tongues stuff and other Hip Hop on his MP3 player so we shared a tender moment screaming all of the Quest lyrics. And yes, T-Pain was horrendous and should forever hang his head in shame. Man, I miss the way I used to feel about Hip Hop. As much as I love the Underground Dance community something about Hip Hop speaks to a deep, deep place inside of me...

jermaine dupri was an embarrassment to the vets on the stage when he busted out breaking in the midst of seasoned vets DANCING...he told his age and ignorance so much so that they ended it all and walked off stage.
i felt sorry for keisha cole. she tried but just couldn't get it happenin'.

you know what, celeste? i'm gonna say this and please don't think i don't have respect for you because, as everyone knows, i am SUCH a hardcore "lady" fan when it come to the music industry...but just to address your comment because lots of cats have been saying the same thing - i am so beyond these cats' weight and looks...i'm just glad they are still alive, healthy and capable of representing because when you have to deal with the death of jaydee and then seeing phife up there, the last thing on the bird is how big these cats got. it just falls right in with how currently images are more important that respect and talent and love, hence most of the talentless cats reppin' the new on that show. i love phife and i am worried. why would i talk about how thin he is and make fun of it? who knows why moe dee is how he is? he could be going thru and look at us talking about his looks when he got up there and did great.

...lupe went on the okyplayer.com board to explain the situation, but it backfired on him -- thread was taken down, but here's a summary from BET.com (http://www.bet.com/Music/MUSICNEWS_LUPE_FIASCO_HIP-HOP_HONORS_10.9.htm?wbc_purpose=Basic&WBCMODE=PresentationUnpublished)...
If you tuned in to VH1's Hip-Hop Honors show Monday night, chances are you witnessed Lupe Fiasco flub the lyrics on A Tribe Called Quest's classic "Electric Relaxation." Needless to say, Lupe felt he had some explaining to do to true hip-hop heads and he used the Okayplayer message board as his opportunity to explain his side.
"So I've explained this to a lot of people...let me name drop a few," Lupe begins, before naming Fab 5 Freddy, Common, The Roots' ?uestlove and ATCQ frontman Q-Tip. He then went on to reveal why he wasn't well-versed on the song's lyrics.
"I DID NOT GROW UP ON ATCQ," he explained. "I wasn't a backbacker rap enthusiast!!! I never claimed to be...I grew up on gangsta rap," he added.
As if that wasn't enough explanation, Lupe admitted that he's never even heard ATCQ's genre-breaking ablum, Midnight Mauraders.
"FYI, when it was initially offered to me, I turned it down because I felt it was out of place for me to be honoring them because while I fully aware of their impact in hip-hop, I wasn't really aware of their music," he said, insisting that it was Q-Tip who asked him to be a part of the tribute, despite knowing that Fiasco wasn't that familiar with the project.
Whlie his explanation assauged the hip-hop sensibilities of some of the board's users, there were still others who just weren't buying it. Little Brother's Phonte was one of them.
"I purposely remained silet during Fiascogate just to see how it all would play out and to see how my man would gain control of the situation, but with you forgetting the lyrics to a classic song from a classic group on national television while paying tribute to them, the 2nd plane has offiicially hit the tower," he responded.
...even "that guy from drumline" remembered the lyrics to that whodini song....

Performances at VH1.com (http://www.vh1.com/shows/events/hip_hop_honors/_2007/index.jhtml).
Also watch some of the red carpet interviews - there was an interesting one in particular with Nelly & Busta Rhymes where they semi-reveal a situation as to why Spindarella wasn't on the stage with Salt n' Peppa. Have no idea what the situation was, but Nelly described it as "BS".

It was a let down to me to read his comments, simlar to Richard Petty calling African Americans People "Those People". Someone you look up to lets you down like that, its hard to forgive.

It was a let down to me to read his comments, simlar to Richard Petty calling African Americans People "Those People". Someone you look up to lets you down like that, its hard to forgive.
Hip Hop Checks and Balances
I'm done with his ass.

and how will you be taking your crow?

Who is Keisha Cole?
Who is Keisha Cole?
right.
(but if you really don't know her, she's the hot shit du jour and her success has been attributed to mary j. blige "opening the door" for her and her kind, similar to what cats said about tribe to lupe...but imagine if keisha cole didn't even know mary j's album...if she didn't, she wouldn't admit it AND stick up for her ignorance...that would be cutting off her older fans. that's what lupe did - his respect from seasoned cats is waning.)

Keisha has a stank attitude and she cannot sing live IMO. There are plenty of Radio personalities around the country who have interviewed her and they always had a hard time with her. She's got alot of drama in her life dealing with her family. Ever check out her reality show on BET?

Yeah shes taking in the crackhead moms and the sister this season.I like her, maybe because she is hood and always herself.Sometimes you need that hoodness people with personalities and opinions.Beyonce who i worship is a bit of a bobblehead with no opinions.

Sounds like you're describing Mary J Blige 10 years ago.
I love love LOVE Mary, but I've been in the studio and watched an engineer re-tune almost every word she sings with a computer.

This is true, but I think the difference is Mary was always humble, atleast from what I've seen as her career progressed. Keisha just rubbed me the wrong way from jump.
Man, stop tellin them lies about changin up her voice. lol (I believe you too. I"m not surprised by it at all.)

i didn't understand how she could be showing all that and she was still fluorescent green...however, she had to get dingy to attract fans that knew mary from when she was cracked out. i marvel on how these cats are so heavily into marketing and objectifying themselves that they leave no room for change. it's like suicide.

nah...the breaking was out of place - that was wop/snake/cabbage patch time = coolness...you can't break with a vest with no shirt and a cowboy hat on.
i beg to differ. as i recall in the original video of the song they were on tour and mad kids breaking, etc. one of 'em was jermaine - poppin' and locking.

Still doesnt change the fact that he has talent though.I dont think the younger folks are as outraged as the older folks perhaps because tribe is relevant to the older generation. But in reality alot of kids who listen to hiphop have never heard of a tribe called quest.
the outrage is over #1 - agreeing to do it even if you never heard the song. #2 - lying and saying Q-Tip asked you personally to do it. Tip actually asked for Talib and Mos, but Talib wasn't available and Mos is down in Jena protesting. Furthermore, Lupe carried on and on about never liking (or knowing about) Tribe, that he listened to gangsta rap, etc. etc. That's what people are salty about. The mistake is fine, but shut up and keep it moving.
