SUPPORT THE JENA 6
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2007, please markyour calendar!!!!!
Please spread to at least five other people and make sure you inform them to send the info to five other people, to spread the word.
National Black Out Day on November 2 ….Do not make any purchases on this day but please do not make any major $ amount purchases, the day before or the day after because then the Black Out will be of no effect. This is from 102.5 Grown & Sexy radio station; they are asking their listeners to spread the word for those who may not listen to the station. This is the second phase from the Jena 6 and many other cities and people of color are facing similar situation like the Jena 6.
NO PURCHASES…..NO PURCHASES….NO PURCHASES….NO PURCHASES
NO PURCHASES NOV. 1, NOV. 2 OR NOV. 3

I think it excludes everything... the problem with these types of boycotts is Black Folks try to make caveats to make it more comfortable for their own needs.

It kills me how people get all up in arms when a crime is comitted with racial overtones or a person is mistreated because of their color, but when they can do something like make an economic impact that will make people take notice then it becomes a chore.

it's not going to make an impact though. people shift purchasing to other days.
2ndly. What's the connection of systematic issue and us denying local businesses their revenue?

In Theory, You Make it known we aren't spending money today. If it makes a big enough impact (meaning everyone cooperate) believe me the money concious powers that be will take notice and make steps not to piss you off. It won't work without a concerted effort.

The political statememt has to go past a certain date.
What if folks just decided to boycott the upcoming holiday season, thats real heavy!
Are we really that disciplined, thats the bigger issue.

Agreed about which is the bigger issue the answer appears to be no. I think, however, that if you make the statement on any given day and it is effective the THREAT becomes magnified.

In todays world what makes folks threatened by much of anything we do?:icon130:
We as an economic base can really shake things up, we're all over the place in where we stand on issues.:madani:
Take any other nationality, they can create a solid front on an issue even if its overseas where their powerbase is.
How many black businesses open up in a Korean area, Chinatown, or your pick of a nationality, they're free to set up shop in any area we live in.

I really don't get it either. Why they picked a friday? A 1st friday at that! That means that I'm not supposed to hit the club until 12:01am (I do my show until 12am anyway. Sorry, as much as I would like to support I think that this was a bad call all around. Hell, peeps are still trying to pay their rent at this time, so let's think about that.

No, they don't care, because:
1. It will not make no difference to their quarterly earnings report. (They won't even see it.) Because, after you BOYSCOTT for your whole day, you will go out and buy all the shit you were going to buy anyway.
2. They have NOTHING to do with Jena 6.

In response to:
1. They will notice if a collective large group doesn't spend. Thats why they are so concerned with the numbers of holiday spending and how it may dictate the economy
2. They don't have to have anything to do with Jena six. When a protest is made it isn't always directed at the direct perpetrators of atrocities as much as to open the eyes of all to make sure the same things don't happen elsewhere. You can't believe (or can you) that the organizers of said protest are doing this for the sole benefit of the Blacks in the town of Jena.....really you can't can you?

Brother please tell me you were on the 50th Heineken when you posted that. As far as the rent most people don't have a late penalty until 5-10 days. As far as not being able to hit the club until 12:01 well I know right there you were being a wise ass

Dude... people will just buy their gifts the next day. (Or buy twice as many groceries the day before)
You want to make a point? Have millions boycott a single company for months, and you can have that company make changes. (Of course, this would be stupid, as you're not trying to get a company to change shit.) But this whole "don't buy stuff for a day" makes NO SENSE.
Have everybody take the money they supposedly didn't spend that day and donate it to a good cause if you really want to cause any change.

What the fuck does any company, from Johnson & Johnson to my local pizzaria, have to do with solving social injustice?
Want to change policy? Then talk millions of people into boycotting politicians who don't share your policy goals. But this do not buy shit for a day thing is absolutely ridiculous.
I honestly wish people would buy less stuff in
