View Full Version : Who was Chicago's "DJ V"

Had a tape way back in the day which was really good and was made by a DJ named "DJ V". Never really knew who that was, but I was told it was a kid I went to Highschool (Rich East) with named Victor Blackful.
Back in those days I was kind of afraid of him already because I was a freshman and that Victor Blackful wrongfully appropriated my CASIO SK1 from a friends house I had left it at. He was kind of a crazy looking brother and was a Senior too, so I cut my losses cuz I was scrawny and new to them parts and didn't want to get killed by a dude who's sister (Black Widow (Vicky)) hung with "Mental Problems".

I didn't know much about him at that time, but after I got the tape, I thought back to Felix Stallings (the house cat) told me: Vic is a DJ.

Well, if that DJ V is the same Victor Blackful that is the same kid that became WGCI's radio personality "The Diz", I wanna know because I'm still looking for that SK1. Just kidding, I could care less about that now. Truth is the DJ V on the tape's skills in Disco were oh so tight.

But if I'm wrong and its actually someone else like Vince lawrence I wanna know, cuz The Diz still stole my sampling keyboard and if he was DJ V, I can forgive him.

Does anybody know if DJ V is actually "The Diz"

Dj V could be Verlon Smith from the west side.. Used to be label manager for Music 101. Used to make hour long mixed cassetts.

Anyone remember one of the first female DJ's to play on WBMX or WGCI... She was going to Proviso East when she was mixing on the radio...? Think her name was "Boo Something..." :conf44:

Yes..that's the Diz from 'Gci.

I have a feeling it is him (Victor Blackful), I'm just trying to be sure.

The tape he made has all the classics, and the reason I posted this is because I figured someone may know the title of a very deep & strange African Guitar track that appears on there. I have never been able to figure out. Its not Point Zero or Anger because it seems to be a guitar driven song.

I know I'm not giving too many definate clues because it is hard to describe.

Do you think you know what that song may be? It is a guite aggressive number with a strong bass throughout and a African Electric Guitar doing a solo break down towards the end. The bass is quite strong and aggressive with percussion through-out. I thought it was part of Point Zero or from East to West or a Fela track, but my research has always come up short.

It also could be this person too.

So, to narrow it down: his signature talk-over chant is "Lets go, lets go" at the end of his talk-over.

Do you still have the tape?

No, I wish I did. A notorious tape ganker took that one back in the day.

I actually don't have any left and used to have many, but with all the moves, bad tape decks, and bad friends who used to cuff records also, they are all gone.

Its all good - thanks to those loses - I found the DHP - LOOKING FOR TAPES!
