View Full Version : Kinky People 5th Anniversary report
Indcredible..whata a vibe and what a venue..(Forbidden)fruit, (only)good music, sound quality,..parties like these are the reason my faith in house and disco music will never fade! And really, the only thing negative about yesterday's party was the absence of some notorious Belgium DHP'ers, because how would I have looooved to share this party vibe with you guys. :D
Red D had promised us a asthonishing venue but I had no idea it would be this near perfect. The place was in fact a big sized loft, that served as the residence of Kinky People dj Ramses and his parents.. They had been so kind to offer the Kinky People their splendid accomodation. It had two seperate rooms and within each a dj setup..

room 2
When I arrived, L.Housensual was playing a great variety of tunes (Rashaan Petterson, some Shelter stuff, Macy Gray, Madonna-Holiday, Billy Jean, Don't Stop-KID)in the small room, where people were soon filling up the space..During the whole evening, a amusing selection of over 600 pictures of 5years of Kinky People was projected against a wall..I said it already to some Kinkies yesterday, but I would like to repeat here that what you've pulled of recently deserves utmost respect..It's has been a great year !
And judging the crowd, it has to be that there's a bright future for another 5years of Kinky People parties.. Most people were refreshingly young, but seemed to be totally open for the wide variety of underground music that was played..The first dj to open the main room at midnight was DHP member Ardi, who I have been told only started mixing one year ago..Yet, this didn't prevent him from giving away a flawless set in which he suprised me by playing 2Belgen-Nena.. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Ardi in the mix
People had soon taken in most of the space in the main room, where the sound was superb, maybe the best I've heard in years on a party in Belgium..The sound went up a couple of levels when Red D took over 02am..I had already been grooving on Ardi's set, yet during Red D's first half hour, I really lost it..So hard that I can't seem to remember what he actually played.. Doesn't matter neither, as the vibe was excellent and I was finally totally feeling this loud beat again ..Happens way to often that one gets such a treat.. graemlins/cheering.gif No doubt the excellent percussion by Percussion Pi was equally responsible for driving the madness high up.. graemlins/respekt.gif

In the second room, host dj Ramses was able to draw my attention with the 80's records he was playing alternatly with another dj, TAK (sp?) After coping with a little sound problem (overheated amplifier), they managed to get a vibe going there..Much respect for Ramses, him only being 20 years old..Tom D, you've got a serious competitor there.. ;)

Full report tomorrow, haven't left bed all day, I guess walking outside in a sweaty t-shirt does make you ill...
On a side note, I saved Lyot from some illegal activities last night, our crowd has a lot of young people, some of them very young ;)
Back 2 bed...

Hi peeps, seems like it's been a blast! Big respect to the kinky posse, and you know I'm crying that I didn't make it... had to work, had to get money if you know what I mean, C.R.E.A.M.
So that's Ramses' crib? He got it going on...

Well, I thought I was going to die yesterday but I'm back and wearing a big big smile when I think about our 5 Years anniversary, because it was just like I wanted it to be: set it all up with friends, party with more friends and good music all around. The vibe was one of feeling good and respect to Kinky People, the dj's, the music, the location, everything.
I knew that place was gonna be loved by all, and Ramses' parents have become Kinky Honorary Member overnight, opening up their home to 250 people and partying with us till the very last record @ 7AM, that's house!
Lyot already commented on the many young people in our crowd, and that is perhaps the single most important aspect of our anniversary, our future is being made right now. All the people on the DHP ranting on about how house is dead et all, come to your senses and realise that it's not house that's dead, it's your attitude and efforts for house that need reviving. In this day of thousand-and-one music styles and clubs, in this day where house and deep disco is unheard of on the radio it's you that needs to go out and get young people interested, do not arrogantly think that people will come to house and not the other way round. How to do that? Simple, show interest in what they like and a good part of them will show interest in what you are doing, don't be arrogant and behave like you know it all, think back to the day before you had all this knowledge about house and act accordingly. Some comments from young people last Saturday:
Francis (19), loves hard tek and break core: "usually I am annoyed with the slow tempo and vocals but now I instantly start dancing and feeling how positive and deep your music really is".
Lisa (16), listens to pop and r&b: "I can't explain it, I don't know any of these songs and they still make me dance".
Clé (16), most of her friends are into harder electronic stuff: "Kinky People is my style, everybody smiles and the music makes me feel happy".
Damn, it sounds like a cheap ass commercial for some cheesy trance club, but that's what I heard, and that's what you should be hearing if you make the effort!
Anyway, I'm rambling, but fact is that I'm damn proud on what we have done the last 5 years, and I ain't ready to quit right now, we're just getting started smile.gif
Gotta mention my fellow dj's and the people from the sound system, y'all did a great job. The sound in the main room was deeeeeep, best I heard in years in Belgium, too bad the monitor wasn't up to the same level. That and the fact that the dj booth was awkwardly placed made that I didn't really get into my groove like I usually do when playing, but everybody seemed to be grooving and enjoying the music, with a lot of screaming and hands in the air moments, so it's all good, the music and the people are more important than my ego and in-the-zone feeling.
Of course I still had some highlights:
Robert Owens - I'll Be Your Friend
Two Tons Of Fun - Make Someone Feel Happy
Pierre's Phantasy Club - Fantasy Girl
Ten City - Devotion (radio mix)
Moraes - Heaven Knows
Jovonn - Back In The Dark
...
Next weekend the second best thing in our hometown, Pop-Eyes, a night of all things disco, funk, soul, italo, house, new beat, etc...looking forward to that one enormously!

So true D, all you have to do is keep the youngsters interested... if you keep a nice vibe to the party they gonna fall for it sooner or later...
I'm banging my head against the wall for not coming, but a reunion is bound to be... this pop-eyes thing, is it this weekend? If you're up to it I might come down to check it out...
Peace!

RD Well said bro, if only people follow what you just said...
And from the comments you quoted, one thing stems out of it all: people want to have fun, they don't wanna hear about how intellectual one is about music, about the politics of this and that, they go out to have fun; if you give them what it takes to have fun, they'll come back. In the meantime, they're hearing some of the most fantastic music.

Can't wait to read your report on A'dam by the way.. [/QB]My report from A'dam is a big bummer, woke up Sunday morning at 11AM with a serious fever and something driving nails through my head... I guess walking around outside at 7AM in a sweaty t-shirt isn't the perfect preparation for Theo :( Feeling a bit better now.
Yeah, 16 year-old beauties on a daily basis is a jungle for a bachelor, but reason always prevails over hormones, so I can manage ;)

Hello,
back on DHP and very glad to be here. Went trough a lot of changes last couple of months, the reason for being offline. But back as new...
The party was just perfect! Music made the place heaven for one night.
The small room L.Housensual (aka Lenny) proved why we usually spin together: he played 4 songs on a row that I already had in mind to play in my set.
Nevertheless I opened in the main room for 2 hours (my first set alone behind the decks). My choice of music is definitely not as jacking as Red D's but I've tried to stay true to my mission of spreading love and understanding through good vibes.
Red D took over and selected some tunes that I had with me too... felt really good. Volume +10%, Percussion at best and loose yourself in house...
I went for some social talk to the other room: Ramses, assisted by Thang and another friend (guess it was Koen), selected some really good tunes! He is as innocent in his music as he looks.
Duty called, I had to be barman... very nice job since Minus started his set. Damn good 12" in his crates.
The evening ended with catching up with old friends.
PS Lyot, my sister in law was wondering if you were aware of seeking eye contact the whole evening. And it is not Nena but Lena that 'de twee belgen' are singing about.

In fact, I actually did a search on Google to see what the title of that song was.. I doubted between Nena & Lena..I got quite some results after typing Nena-2 Belgen, so I thought that was the title..
Come again concerning your sister in law..I don't really understand the statement there.. smile.gif
