Tim and i are thinking of heading out there for this event. I know it gets hot & sticky in NY during the summer time. I just wanted to know how much we're going to melt.
graemlins/bighug.gif thanks in advance... graemlins/bighug.gif

If it get real hot, they usually wet the crowd down with hoses....this was a highlight at the Body and Soul events at Summerstage years ago.

we've never been to an event like this. could we bring our own water and towels to sit on? or is the park strict on what you can and can not bring?

terri,
you can bring towels and stuff but i dont think they allow any bottled water or drinks....not sure about food either.
they do sell all of this stuff inside...usual prices.
summerstage always sells lots of heinekens and they have barbecue food...some vege dishes available too. it's usually pretty good too.
id bring sunscreen, def. it gets sunny in there. bring a towel to sit on if you want...the ground is mostly green turf...they have bleachers too in the back....some trees...some shade...
hope this helps.

I saw some with coolers also.....however, I'm not sure what the deal is with coolers. Lawn chairs, towels, blankets, sheets was also cool, but it gets so pack and it is like a big party, so I don't think you will be laying around too much. :D

I went to the MAW show in 2000 (the last July 4 I spent at Summerstage). The heat wasn't a problem. It's having to wait one hour to get in if you are late (they have a capacity limit). And if you're late this time, forget getting in (Chaka's there, baby!).
You may also want to try the African Street Festival in Brooklyn that same weekend (if Summerstage Fails). It's at Boys and Girls High. A, C to Utica Ave. 20 minutes from manhattan. Come out of the subway and your right there. Peace.

The waitng is no problem, you run into so many heads while on line. And meet new ones too. It's like a big family reunion.

Heah Terri 447, think Miami with better dancers and music....if you can do a split and a walk over in those capri pants, then that should be what you wear.

Chairs are not. 11am is late, substantial line by 10a with diehards like me showing up between 8:30-9:00.
Terri, the weather has so far been so far from seasonable it is probably not wise to overfocus on what to wear at this juncture. Check the forecast before you set out and think about layers and sun protection and stuff you won't trip out over getting wet in if the hoses get turned on (carry your gear for the day in plastic...).
