newsflash...club Love has been hosting non 'deep' events for some time now...all sorts of techno, trance and drum & bass stuff has taken place there...plus private parties for magazines and premiers and such...
what pays the bills at shelter? what kinds of parties go on there on off nights and regular nights before the actual 5am shelter party? same at the previous location...
pacha...was supposed to be an ibiza style club...all sorts of 'house'...been lots of hip hop also...shit, they advertise hip hop parties there on Hot97...

That's no newsflash at all. When they first opened the owner was all about keepin it real (aka house).
Shelter on the other hand never said such a thing cuz they knew from jump what pays bills. Hell even Junior Vasquez did hiphop parties at Sound Factory.
I'm sure noone who dealt with the staff at Love ever envisioned YoYo and Jim Jones at Club Love.

i'm not saying anyone claimed anything...other than Clu Love like you said, but months ago i began to get emails for parties at Love that were far from 'keepin it real'...but many folks think that love, shelter, pacha and whoever else are only about 'house' and that keeps them afloat by itself...i've seen deep heads who show up a bit early at shelter and are 'schocked' by whatever part is there earlier, one guy, i swear, called me to tell me that timmy was playing banging techno and he won't go in...i was like uh, its early and its Lee Burridge's party till 5am...or people diss Pacha because Hot97 throws parties there etc...me personally i can care less...

While some may consider the "non-House" events as not keeping it real, for the most part, except for those mainstream Holiday parties that occur around major holidays, they catered to various aspects of the underground dance music scene and are far from mainstream as far as dance music is concerned. Most of these events appealled to "dance music nerds" and weren't promoted beyond that niche and even then it alienated that niche somehow, which is why a lot of parties came and went from that spot, a lot of promoters often became dissatisfied with dealing with the club and how it moved from a predominately deep house club to a more diverse underground dance music club ("underground" being the key word).
Yet, I find it interesting that the Sullivan Room, a few blocks away, is the club of choice among underground dance music promoters (including deep house promoters), even though it doesn't tout itself as "the perfect dance music club" because the management allow the promoters to promote and present the music the way they want to not because of some fantasy of what the ideal party is. I don't like the Sullivan Room but they accomplished what Love wanted to accomplish and all the gimmicks in the world can't hide it.
It's not about the money, yet it can't be a complete money pit to maintain operations.
Or maybe that building is cursed. :rofl5:
Who am I to be saying this, just a disgruntled customer.

I guess the programming is becoming more mainstream but still until fairly recently the focus was on dance music nerds and the Friday and Saturday programming still reflects that. I was there as recently as the Saturday before Halloween (Kenny Larkin was scheduled to play and cancelled) and it was a bunch of dance music nerds. They blocked off the entrance to the main dance floor for DJ decks so it could feel like a Rave.

Is it still like that in the clubs in NY on Hiphop nights? I remember the early 90's when we'd do a Hiphop night at one spot for a couple of weekends, then somebody got shot so we moved it and it happened again until you had done all the clubs and the first club you did it at was willing to try it again and the same thing happened again, etc..
Timmy, I remember when we played at Sound Factory we were told "No Scratching allowed cause it messes up the Turntables!", and they were 1200's (lol). Wonder if Junior scratched at all when he did Hiphop nights there?
