I've been thinking alot about the state of house music lately and I wanted to ask this question....
What record are you all feeling the most that is new ( recent ) ?
No disrespect to the classics , I love and play 'em , but i'm trying to promote new records when I play now..
i spend about 300.00 a month on records..new and old and buy 75% newer stuff if it matters... graemlins/cool_shades.gif

Great vocals as well as fantastic chords!! I first heard it at WMC this year and definitely think this one will be a monster release.

Whats up DJ Chex! I hear what you are saying. I always hear people complaining that there is not enough music going around but I think that you need try to find it. I think we are blessed that people on this site post new mixes and keep us up to date with whats happenin. When I listen to a new mix by Master Kev or Tony Humphries, there are always records I put on my list of 'must haves'. Here are a few records that I am after at the Moment
Heather Headly - 'He is'
Ann Nesby - 'Shelter'
DJ Stacey - 'People of the World'
Dawn Tallman - 'Make a Joyful Noise'
Peace. smile.gif

The first one that comes to mind is the amazing Soul Planet Jazz Ensemble 12" on Soul Planet records. Also, a lot of the time I get bored with sampling and cover versions but I have to give big props to We Get Up by The Movement.

I've been beating
strength, courage and wisdom - India Arie
beauty and thug - Jahiem/Mary j. Blige
closer ( rmx's ) - brent lawrence
Dreaming - Craig Loftis
I'm not sure how old the Craig Loftis record is because it was sealed and there's no date on it but I think it's fairly recent...
also ..Day's like this by Shaun Escoffery is a cut my boy put me on and I just got a couple of copies...
Also Big Sexy by Ron Carroll and Closer to You by Roy Davis jr. are special to me....the Roy davis is a couple months old but still hot !
peace.

peace. That "Closer" by Brent Lawrence is hot!! If you like Ron Carroll, pick up "Natural"...."Soul Musiq" is the B side on the Roy Davis JR. record. I like it even better than Closer To You. If you like Ann Nesby, the Let It Be double-pack on Silk Entertainment is a must, even if you already have other versions of this record. Two records I REALLY like right now are Camiel - Maybe, and Brio From Rio - Just For Me.....JMJ

I know it has been out awhile, but my favorite record right now is Georg Levin's "Found Somebody New."
Also, Life Is But A Dream
This week's buys:
"Seaside" Buscem (original version)
"Shinin" Joey Musaphia's Refunkt Dub
"What You Are To Me" - Kaskade (stereo sushi)
"It's On" Keith Thompson
"Ever Lasting" Place of Dawn -- Is that Jon Lucien's voice? I wish they could have brought him into the studio, the track overpowers a gorgeous vocal here, but still a very good record IMO

that " keys of life" is hot ! no doubt !
Now the question I pose is if we as dj's see and feel this stuff that is hot... why are crowds wanting only " those same 30 " to dance to ???

Now the question I pose is if we as dj's see and feel this stuff that is hot... why are crowds wanting only " those same 30 " to dance to ??? because MOST poeple ,in general, feel comfortable with things that they know of.
DJs on the other hand are special in the sense that we like to listen to new things.
it's always been that way,the trick is to break it to the crowds gradually without them realizing it.
don't mind me I am just bored...............................
and I agree the "Keys of life" is sweet..........

Not house but The Bug's "Pressure" LP is shit hot. Some of it is absolutely punishing but check out "Live & Learn", "Thief of Dreams" or "Executor". Damn! House-wise, well almost, I am liking:
DJ Spinna "Music In Me [Extended Mix]" (BBE Promo)
Sekouba Bambino "Decourage [Charles Webster Remix]" (Distance)
Jeff Mills "Medium" (Axis)
India Arie "Strength, Courage & Wisdom" (Fall Out)
Alden Tyrell "Phaze Me" (Panama) - at last!
Sampler 2 (Floorplay) w/ a great mix of "Club Lonely"
Yam Who Reedits of N'Dambi and Raphael Saddiq - so good I bought them twice.
Papa Wemba "Mawe [Ron Trent Remix]" (Distance)
Basic Black "Don't Make Me Fall In Love [Timmy Regisford Remix]"
Tumblack "Caraiba" (Vertige)
I'm looking forward to hearing what all the fuss is about with this Raul Midon record, and the Jovonn. So far I have left all the hyped records from Miami in the shop.

My favourite record of the year so far has to be the Steel Dub on the flip side of Higher Together by Rufuss feat Qalo Mota (on QM Records). This is the baddest tune I've heard in a long time - and a Dub mix that is truly a dub and not just an instrumental. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Spinna "Music and Me" extended 12" version
"Only You" - Blaze remix finally released on Spiritual Life. Can't remember the artist. Beatiful track.
the A side of that Fudge "If I had a Band" record - can't remember the name. It's a long flute jam.
Sekouba Bambino "Decourage" I'm not crazy about the vocal but the dub is butter.
Jovonn "Rush" it took a minute but this has grown on me.

loads of great tunes already mentioned - especially:
tribute (ron trent) - the session and the Yam who remix of RAphael saadiq ( i prefer the dub )
Carl Craig's remix of Cesaria Evoria is nasty!!
also Charles Webster is on fire again at the moment: not only his dub of the Papa Wemba but also watch out for his remix of
Alexi Delano - Round and round ( Statra ) and his mix on the
Kemetic Just - do you remember ( silver ) - the last one is an incredible double-pack with great original and another cool mix by Pepe Bradock
i always loved JIMPSTER's Freerange label but his upcoming stuff is hotter than most of the previous releases:
Hanna - The race ( with a beautiful off-beat mix by finnish talent Dharma one )
Stateless - the art of no state ( incredible album )
plus Stateless remix 12"es with tasty interpretations by Kaidi Tatham and Darsha
also catched a promo copy yesterday of Ashley Beedle's remix of Midnight Star - Midas Touch, it's slick!

Sean </font>[/QUOTE]This "same old 30 records" thing is a myth IMO. Everybody, in any club, wants to hear shit they know. Why? Because they've already built up an appreciation for these songs. They probably listen to them at work or on DHP or whatever and when they're dancing they want to hear their favorite shit loud in a club so they can lose they mind. I'm no different. HOWEVER, this doesn't mean DJs must play only the new popular shit. As long as it is sprinkled throughout your set, the crowd will feel you. This is obvious to most but I keep seeing complaints about these 30 records and I just ain't buyin' that it's really true. In fact, in my experience, a house crowd is way more open to experimentation than a hip hop crowd.
