Zeppelin's Page says finger OK, 2008 tour reported
12:35PM Thursday November 22, 2007
Reuters
Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page says he's ready to rock
LONDON - Rarely can the wiggle of a little finger have meant so much to so many.
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page says a broken finger on his left hand is healing well and he is confident of performing in a reunion concert on Dec. 10, rescheduled from November to give him time to recover after a fall.
It has also been reported Led Zeppelin will tour with '80s rock powerhouse The Cult next year. According to MTV, Cult frontman Ian Astbury let the news slip during a concert in Cincinnati, Ohio.
"We'll be back next year because we're opening for a band you may have heard of... The name starts with an 'L' and has a 'Z' in it."
When a fan shouted, "Led Zeppelin?" Astbury nodded to confirm the fan's guess, and raised his arm in the air.
The classic British rock band, which has sold around 300 million albums, plans to perform one track for the first time at the gig, 27 years after they split, Page says.
"I suppose something like a Zeppelin reunion wouldn't be right without a bit of drama," the silver-haired 63-year-old Led Zeppelin guitarist told Reuters in an interview, referring to the recent accident.
"I'll tell you now, this is 2-1/2 weeks from the injury and there we are, it's doing that," he said, holding up and moving the injured finger.
"It's going to be fine for the concert.
"I'm able to do what I ought to be able to do, it's just a bit bruised and a it's bit painful still, but with this two weeks' postponement ... it's going to be fine."
Page said he would resume rehearsals this week.
Led Zeppelin are getting back together to pay tribute to the late Ahmet Ertegun, who originally signed them in 1968 before they became one of the world's biggest bands.
Demand for tickets was so great that the website crashed when millions of fans tried to log on. One paid ?83,000 pounds ($228,000) for two tickets in a charity auction.
"I was told at one point that there were half a billion hits. I don't know how true that is, but it sounds better than, you know, five, doesn't it?" Page said.
Ticket holders will be treated to a 90-minute set at the domed 02 Arena where the band is expected to play seminal hits like Whole Lotta Love, Communication Breakdown and Stairway to Heaven.
Page expects one track to be new to everyone.
"There's one number that we rehearsed, I assume that it will make it to the Dome, that we never played at any point in time."
It dates from when the band was together between 1968 and 1980. "It's a really intense number."
As well as the concert, Led Zeppelin have released a compilation album Mothership, a remastered version of the concert film The Song Remains the Same and the soundtrack to the DVD.
The Dec. 10 gig has led to speculation in the media and among fans that the band, which has played only a handful of times since it split, could tour together, following in the footsteps of countless other heritage rock acts.
Page has been quoted as hinting at a full reunion although some industry sources say that lead singer Robert Plant, who has enjoyed a successful solo career, may be reluctant to sign up.
Page and Plant play alongside bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham, son of John Bonham, whose death in 1980 prompted Led Zeppelin to break up.
"Let's just do the O2 and we'll see what happens from there," said Page. "I haven't got a crystal ball here and nor have you."

hey david. :)
been away from this board for some time... while there'll surely b the naysayers and the cynics claiming these geriatric rockers are out merely for the dough, at the end of the day they are artists and i think it's great that they're taking another kick at the can showcasing their stuff regardless of age. would love to get my hands on a pair of tix to check these cats out as i certainly couldn't, due to age, when they toured in their prime. power to 'em.

Who bloody cares if their out for the "filthy lucre". So long as I (or anyone else interested) gets a chance to see them is all that matters...at least to me!!! I'm one of the lucky ones who'll see them on 10.12.07 so if that the last we'll ever see or hear or Zeppelin, I'm alright w/ that. However, I'll hold out on hoping they'll tour in '08 until the tickets actually go on sale. Once bitten, twice shy!!!

Words can not even describe how stoked I am to hear more hints about a possible Led Zeppelin tour. I am 32 years old and Led Zeppelin has been the most important musical influence in my life bar none since I discovered their music back in the mid 80's. If they come I don't care if tickets are $1000... I will be there. Is that a bit crazy? Yes, but for someone like me was far too young to see them in their day (I was 5 when Bonzo passed) this would be the ultimate concert, and their is NOTHING that would even come close for me. I saw Page and Plant live twice in 95 and both shows were great, easily the best live shows I have ever seen. To have John Paul Jones back with them and Jason Bonham who imo is the only drummer who can truly do justice to the late great John Henry Bonham.... well that would just be incredible.

I tell ya David, I don't care much for Hendrix's performance @ Woodstock. For me, it sounded like he was quite "bored" & played truly lackluster that day...compared to other performances in '67-'68. Given that he was "tired" of performing those song by then, in that performance, it "really" sounds like it! I much perfer his June '67 Monterey Pop & Oct. '68 peformances @ Winterland. I dare say you'd L-O-V-E those Winterland tracks. He performs a rare bur wicked version of "Are You Experienced" as well as "Stone Free", "Manic Depression" & other classics. If you can, find the albums "The Jimi Hendrix Concerts" & "Live @ Winterland".

Agreed!!! That "Band of Gypsys" version from the New Years live action @ the Fillmore East is friggin' classic!!! Hendrix was really in tune on that one! Easily, one of the best performances of his carreer!!!

Its funny, I get asked quite often why I don't like much if any of the so called "rock music" of today. I have the same answer every time "listen to a couple tracks of your favorite current rock artist, then put in any Led Zeppelin CD and listen to a few tracks, then you will hear what what REAL rock music sounds like and you will know yourself why I don't like current rock and you won't need to ask me why." There has been nobody for YEARS in rock music that put out music with the soul, emotion and musical complexity of a band like Zeppelin.

Believe me Kevin, one hasn't live until one has experienced a Zeppelin live action in the flesh!!! The closest I've come is through the dvd set that came out in '03. I can only hope this really happens & one of them doesn't pass on before then. Remember the Clash reunion that nearly happened in '02...untill Joe Strummer died!!!

Stairway to Heaven/Lyrics
There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who standing looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And its whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now,
Its just a spring clean for the may queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it wont go
In case you don't know,
The pipers calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow,
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.

there are plenty of great rock bands around today, but unlike back in the day... you actually have to search for them. as for throwing on ANY Zepplin album to hear what REAL rock music sounds like... (as much as i like the song) Dyer Maker is one of the cheesiest songs ever written.
you are into a certain sound, Zepplin happens to do it for you. doesn't mean everything that came afterwards is wack, now does it. if you haven't heard any good rock music since Zepplin that is a problem you have for yourself. you are obviously NOT LISTENING, and have refused to accept how rock music has evolved since Zepplin were still making albums or you feel the need to compare everything to Zepplin.
don't get me wrong, i love Zepplin. but if rock music really ended with their break up, and every band that came after them tried to emulate their sound,
i would absolutely hate it.

Since I`ve Been Loving You - Lyrics (Led Zeppelin)
---
Since I've Been Loving You
(Jones/Page/Plant)
Working from seven to eleven every night,
It really makes life a drag, I don't think that's right.
I've really, really been the best of fools, I did what I could.
'Cause I love you, baby, How I love you, darling, How I love you, baby,
How I love you, girl, little girl.
But baby, Since I've Been Loving You. I'm about to lose myworried mind, oh, yeah.
Everybody trying to tell me that you didn't mean me no good.
I've been trying, Lord, let me tell you, Let me tell you I reallydid the best I could.
I've been working from seven to eleven every night, I said Itkinda makes my life a drag.
Lord, that ain't right...
Since I've Been Loving You, I'm about to lose my worried mind.
Said I've been crying, my tears they fell like rain,
Don't you hear, Don't you hear them falling,
Don't you hear, Don't you hear them falling.
Do you remember mama, when I knocked upon your door?
I said you had the nerve to tell me you didn't want me no more, yeah
I open my front door, hear my back door slam,
You must have one of them new fangled back door man.
I've been working from seven, seven, seven, to eleven everynight, It kinda makes my life a drag...
Baby, Since I've Been Loving You, I'm about to lose, I'm about to lose to my worried mind.

Agreed! Anyone who believes "rock music" ended w/ the break-up of Zeppelin is truly dellusional. Zeppelin's demise was just the end of a glorious band in a glorious era. GN'R, Metallica, Nirvana, etc. are just some of the proof that rock soldiered on afterward!!!

"No Quarter" is the only song I still play from that album. I believe it's, like most of the other tracks, rather "slopy" but it does stand out as the best track from those live actions. Page's growing heroin addiction was most evident by then.

Where did you find that? I'd love to buy a copy.
Coincidently (sp?) I read a long time ago that before the Knebworth show, the soundcheck before the show John Bonham put Jason on the drums and went out front to hear his son play with the band. They were playing Trampled Under Foot when they saw John watching and wondered If John is out front whos on the drums? It was little Jason, the first time he ever played with Zeppelin and they didn't even realize it was him playing until they saw John in front of the stage and turned to look at the drum kit.

ya ive never heard a song i liked by Goo Goo Dolls or Everclear.
never been a grunge fan. but i loved Soundgarden, who ironically sounded very similar to Zepplin... especially their second album Louder Than Love.
Janes Addiction were my shit for that era. them and Dinosaur Jr.
that and the UK Dreampop/Showgaze and Neo Psychedelic scene. bands like My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, etc.
cheers!
In case you wern't aware, "My Bloody Valentine" has re-formed & is playing in London & Manchester in June of '08. There's also a stop in Glasgow. Kevin Shields also has said a new album is definate!!! Now that is yet another live action I thought would never happen. 16 years on & finally my wish has come to fruition!!!
