Nicecast uses shoutcast or icecast to broadcast.

Depending on the server you could also try using http://www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/ (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/)

Good luck.

Cuz it's simple and straightforward. There's no software that allows Mac users to stream to Windows Servers. I've read that the Windows server can accept a mpeg4 stream but there's software that has to be added to the server before that can happen (Quicktime Broadcaster uses mpeg4). Even though Windows Media Encoder uses mp3 for the audio, it's using Windows protocols (different headers on the data). The easiest way is Nicecast. A faster upstream speed means you can have more listeners. If the server can accept your file and push it then the upstream speed isn't a problem.

Ephi ... isnt there a push to move them (mAC and Windows) to a cross platform... I.e common or unified headers on the data encryption.

?

Im dealing with this now on my phone... Windows Mobile 5.0 and podcasting... headaches I tell ya!

Windows likes to play in the sandbox by itself, Mac will make two sandboxes :biggrinangel:

Quicktime is available for Windows, so are iTunes and Quicktime Broadcaster. The Darwin Streaming Server is open source and can be used on a Windows server. That will allow Mac & Windows users to stream to the same server. If you have a Mac Server then you would use QTSS (Quicktime Streaming Server) instead.

E-Phi,

I just installed Nicecast, and everything is butter, except for one thing: my microphone!

I have a JTS-TX8 vocal microphone.
My mixer is an Allen & Heath xone62.

Now, the mic works fine. It is being fed normally into my mixer, and the mixer's sound levels go through the roof when I speak into the mic.

Yet and still, on my Nicecast broadcasting levels (on my desktop), it comes out very low (yet distorted). Now I understand that the distortion is coming from the fact that I have my mic levels set at 100% full throttle (just to get higher volume on the Nicecast broadcaster), but my question is why is the volume so low, yet my other devices on my mixing board are coming thru like butter (2 cd-players, and 3 turntables).

I've ran the expected tests, which is to change channels (there are 2 mic channels on the xone62), to no avail. I get the same results for both channels.

I'm not an expert techy, so this completely baffles me. How come my Nicecast application is easily welcoming the sound emenating from my turntables and cd players, but yet it is snubbing any sound coming from the mic. And all of these audio devices are being routed from my mixer to my MAC with the same cable?!???!

I will post a separate thread in the Producers corner just in case.

thx in advance!

M.

Sometimes the mic output isn't going to the main outs. Look over the user guide for the mixer. There may be a button or switch to make sure the mic is fed to the main outs.
I haven't had this problem so this is just a guess.

from the xone62 users guide:

Recording the show: A dedicated music only stereo output connects to a recordersuch as the MD shown to record the performance. Typically the mic signals are not recorded. The signal is not affected by the master mix control.

from a forum response about the same problem:

There is also an internal jumper that you can readjust to make the Mic come out of the record channels. You can call A&H and they will tell you how to do it...it is a very easy adjustment.

E-Phi,

You're a champ. Thx man. Atleast now I've pin-pointed the problem thx to you.
But I still cannot believe A&H wouldn't have the mic signals go to the record outs...

Baffles me.
