View Full Version : Speaking of reissues...

I have noticed quite a few eBay auctions of what appear to be reissues fetching original copy prices. The sellers are often very clever, and don't make a blatantly false (and legally actionable) claim like "Original!" but rather use wording like "This hard-to-find classic...rare...," etc.
What's your take on this? I know when I saw sealed (yeah, as if!) 12-inches of Panache's "Sweet Music" go for US$70-$80 each, I was tempted to go down to my local record store, which had four or five sealed copies of the REISSUE, and put them up on eBay. Unethical, bad karma--perhaps, but if people are willing to pay...?

Yup, I noticed this too. Very common, especially with the Cloud Nine: Disco Juice pressing. You should really inquire before purchasing.

magic_juan But would YOU, Magic Juan, put one up there, deliberately use vague wording, and let the chips (or $$$) fall as they may? Is it in you?
You certainly don't have to answer, because I know you use eBay to sell records quite a bit, but you strike me as someone who would never do something like that...
That has happened to me once. Since then I always have to make sure with the seller that it is indeed an original pressing. Damn shame...

No, sir, I would not. I got burnt once so I swore never to do it to anyone else. All the stuff I sell are originals because, personally, I hate represses. I know I catch flack from some people who say they would rather pay the $8 for the repress, but I would rather pay the $50 and get the original. That's just me, though.

Well, SOME ebay sellers count on a buyers "ignorance" of the burgeoning reissue market. That reminds me of seeing sellers post a record and immediately yell "BREAKS" in the hope that some younger beatminer will jump at it and ride the price up. graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

magic_juan graemlins/cool_shades.gif You sound like a buddy of mine with the whole reissues vs. originals argument. He's a SERIOUS beatminer.
