Had someone over to your crib that is of another race, ethnicity etc. as a friend. I ask this because I hear a lot about one world, one love and it all starting with self. I realize that we work, dance, and do certain things together as the Human race but when it comes to actually Living the rainbow way of life I was just wondering how diverse (ethnicity wise) our real friends are. When was the last time that someone of another ethnic group was in your crib just hanging out kickin' it?
Peace

My group of friends are fairly mixed ...
I will say I don't have many Black friends compared to the number of friends I have from other races.

Come over so i can answer this thread.. LOL LMAO

Actually its been a long long time Not including Whyteout hangin with him is always a Joy but on a regular basis i dont know many people of another Ethnicity that i hang with. Its not intended that way but i think we all seem to gravitate towards folks that we have things in common with and the feelings of comfort. I could see myself hanging with J-Lennie hes cool as hell just never worked out that way yet. others if your cool and we vibe the color doesnt matter it just works out that way sometimes and its not intended but i dont have other ethnicities over to chill.
:(

my best dj boy is jamaican (we had dinner on saturday night). i gave some records to my filipino friend a couple weeks ago and made a tape last night for my latina homie who just moved up north. never really considered that i was doing things with/for people of other races until i read this topic. guess it don't make much difference to me what your color is as long as you got soul.

I try to just gravitate torwards cool people, but do I really give everyone equal chances for me to even find out? I live on the Southside of Chicago in the Ghetto (not all of the southside is a ghetto, but I live in the Ghetto)My boy Justin who is Jewish and mad cool came around the crib to see me one time and got all these crazy assed looks and I was kinda pissed but had to reaalize that not many of another ethnicity frequent my neck of the woods. I can see how sometimes however not intentional it just works out that way.

Man I have alot friends of different races, Guatemalen, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Phillipino, Caucasian. We all have one thing in common we like to get drunk. Funniest thing that happen I took my Guatemalen friend over to my parents house here's my father's comment, "I never met a Guatemalen before."

yo rich...now i'm talking to you:

this thread is heavy.

i would hope that sometime in our lives we all get a chance to break bread in the homes of people who are ethnically different from ourselves - maybe that way we can stop the hate

peace

I have all kinds of people over regularly, but never really thought about it until I read this. Friends are friends, and I'm welcome out their way also, at least I think I am. For me it's all about WHO you are rather than WHAT you are, and phuck anybody that can't comprehend it....JMJ graemlins/cool_shades.gif

I have had experiences in my life that have led to friendships with people of many races. I also live in a racially mixed community now. My neighbor is 1st generation Chinese and we sat on the steps and talked for about an hour yesterday. Despite cultural differences, we learned we have a lot in common. The same was true with my college roomates and people I worked with in the years I had to live and work in a small Pa. town. One of my best girls -- who sheltered me when I had to run away from my own house -- is white.

But I have to be honest and say that there is a certain comfort that comes from friendships where I've had race in common. For me, there is a certain bonding that can take place with shared experience. In the years when I lived in Pa., I relished the times I got to go out with my cousin in New York and her girlfriends. The ways, humor, culture and clothing consultations ;) of black women was something I really missed in those years.

Years ago, I took my blonde-haired white friend with me to Harlem (I like to test folks) and she didn't even flinch. But even with being cool like that, she has said some things that were racially ignorant/insensitive and I haven't felt quite the same about her since. This is not an indictment of all white folks, mind you. It just gets to be a pain to feel like you have to keep educating people about race and culture. But I still would rather folks be straight and not pretend to be what they are not.

last time i had someone over of a different race was when the maid came by to clean. j/k. don't send hate mail. but this is a good question that i myself don't think about much. i've just always had a diverse group of people. i'm a mutt so i don't really have to stick to any one race or what have you. i just chill with people that are good people. your cool, then i'm cool. your an ass, then you kicked in the ass......
