They are no longer used the correct way. Job performance appraisals in the work place these days are used to control the company budget.

In these tough financial times, companies are heavily scrutinizing their employess and pressuring them to work longer hours just because the economy is bad. (Or in my case, because they are a struggling dot com that has not made any profits yet.)
Nevertheless, my performance appraisals serve as reminders to always be on point and cover my ass.

</font>[/QUOTE]This is precisly the reason that my performance evaluation for this year reads: "Grant got wise to our bullshit and quit on us!"

"exhibits strong web surfing skills
able to do 40 hours of work in under 5, we wonder what she does with those other 35 hours
excessive online time logged in
overall, recommendation: raise"

I have 16 general competencies and another 32 that are not weighted as heavily. It is a wonder how my manager gets any work done in December - there are 4 of us that has this same type of performace appraisal.

dude, really?
we write our own objectives for the upcoming year, which are mostly jobs we hope to accomplish, i.e. "expand xxxx's database to encompass ____", "update xxxx's policies and procedures and develop manuals for xxxx's overseas offices", etc. then it shows if you got your sh*t done over the year or if you ended up doing other stuff - which would then be written in etc ...

most of it is bullshit but it's great stuff to rip off when updating a resume
