Recently bought a new flat in London... lovely place but noisy people underneath!!! Not that i would ever be noisy... (mmmmmmm)Any advice????

I want to do everything i can before going to the council (as thats who their renting off).

Any ideas for noise reduction would be greatly appreciated. Needless to say i've tried to speak to them...unfortunatly they've no manners..
cheers

Lay your speakers on the floor (woofers facing down), and crank it

They will negotiate with you after a few minutes of this band graemlins/rofl5.gif

It could be worse....you could be living underneath their flat.

Try to have an ole fashion pow wow.

Keep the lines of communication open. Try again to speak to them with the attitude of how can we work this out. Take the baby with you next time ;)

-G I agree with Gman here, with the exception of the baby - b/c everyone has different circumstances, so that fact that you have a baby (and they may not) could be interpretted that you are being unreasonable with your request ...

I found a letter that I typed to a neighbor long ago - it worked - maybe this will help (if not, see my post above) smile.gif

-------------------------

(Neighbor),

This note is to express my disappointment with the continuous disturbing noises that appear to come from your apartment - most notably during early morning and late evening hours.

Virtually every morning, I am awaken by either annoying “screeches” (apparently from furniture being dragged), or by continuous pounding, apparently from people walking back and forth in your unit. The pounding rattles and vibrates fixtures in our apartment, affecting my daily quality of life in a negative way.

As you are well aware, I have made several complaints to our Management regarding the noise; and Management has assured me that they have informed you of our dissatisfaction. Additionally, I have made courteous efforts to resolve this problem by voicing our concerns and displeasure to you personally. As a result of these actions, you assured us that you would contain the noise level, yet there has been no notable reduction in noise.

(Neighbor), it appears that you are either unwilling or unable to limit disturbing noises coming from your unit – the noise made by either you, your family, or the other inhabitants of your apartment that have been present the many times I came to talk with you.

This note is to formally request that you take immediate and corrective action to eliminate the disturbing noise coming from your apartment on a daily basis. If the aforementioned issues persist, and on suggestion from Management Security, I will have no other choice than to seek police assistance to solve this matter.

Hope this helps </font>[/QUOTE]Damn - that's like putting out a match with a fire hose! He just moved in the place. A letter like that comes after all else fails.

Go with G and David's suggestions for this one. There's nothing more uncomfortable than not being able to look your neighbors in the face for the sake of bad blood.

Hey now, this letter was after months of frustration. Just offering some options - the letter is free to be editted and remixed graemlins/acclaim.gif

The point of posting this, was sometimes "talking" doesn't work, and those that you are trying to get buy-in from, sometimes need to see things in print ...

Absolutely go with the personal approach first - but my understanding is that verbal communication is not working ... You can see in my letter that I tried the personal approach to death ...

London, noisy neighbours, sounds familiar

You may get some ideas from the soap Opera Eastenders i've been told ;)

Shirley can't cope with Gavin's incessant noise. She asks him to turn his music down, but he refuses

http://www.bbc.co.uk/eastenders/updates/images/03_42/111.jpg
Back at Shirley's flat, Ash joins her for some chips. They chat away until they're disturbed by Gavin's music. Ash pretends that it's not that noisy. It seems that his attempt at diplomacy hasn't succeeded.

Gavin barges into Shirley's flat as Ash prepares to confront him. He taunts them with sexist and racist remarks. Ash seizes Gavin by his collar. Gavin threatens him with an assault charge, so Ash relents. Gavin leaves laughing.

If you have been affected by any of the issues raised by EastEnders, call the BBC Action Line on 08000 934 934 for details of organisations which can help. Calls are free and confidential.

My own advice would be have a word, have a second with a warning that you will take it further. Then maybe get Enviromental health to supply a recording device, this action can lead to your neighbours getting an Injunction (noise abatement order), meaning if they get caught making noise again they get an instant £1000 fine.

Call the Enviromental Health office. If it persists they will send somme people with a mike, decibel metre, and a recorder.

This is what happend to me when I used to practice in the day. Although the ladies were very friendly, & nice they seved me with a noise abatement order. If I had breached this order I would have had my decks, records etc confiscated in definately.

The only bad thing about my case was that it was not my immediate neighbours but someone three doors away whom I know just didn't like me.

Hope you get yourself sorted. The diplomatic route is always best.

Since you're on top of them, why not do a Brothers Johnson and STOMP! http://deephousepage.com/smilies/splat.gif Give 'em a taste of their own medicine.

Eastenders really has gone downhill of late. I can't get into it anymore and that storyline is a prime example of woeful scriptwriting.

I live above a woman who enjoyed extended hours of Clear Channel entertainment, or worse, the dreaded "CD of the moment", played over and over over, for what seemed like weeks at a time.

Unable to bear anymore, I kindly asked if she could turn down the volume. Her response? "I like bass."

"Fine", I said.

That night, I woke up at 4:00am, slipped into my favorite pair of engineer boots, and performed a few household chores.

Funny, she doesn't seem to "like bass" anymore.

We still say hello.

I had the ringmaster for Ringlys Barnam and Baily's circus living above me. It got noisy and a little bizarre when he was in town but usually he was on tour.

I always think about the comic,Steven Wright, talking about his deaf neighbor who is too noisy. His solution... play a blank cassette tape loud.
