R.I.P Johnnie .. Yes.
I didn't know the guy, but I did see his posts on here and he did seem like a cool guy. I'm sorry that Chicago has lost one it's brothers and my thoughts and prayers go to all of you in Chicago, to all those that knew him, and to his entire family. May he rest in peace. :(
Gman,
How about posting his pic up on the board in loving memory of this fellow DHP brother. Also, maybe we should put up his mixes in honor of this Chicagoan that was part of the DHP family.
peace,

RIP Johnnie. And hearts and prayers to his family.
Wow. This really hits close to home. Johnnie was one of the regulars at my weekly parties out at Glenwood in the mid '80's. He wasn't a DJ yet, but told me recently that those parties were one of the reasons why he started spinning. My thoughts go out to him and his family. Rest in peace, Johnnie.....JMJ
I would like to send my prayers and blessings to J. Sommersets family. As a fellow Chicago DJ I know I speak for us all when I say He will be missed.
Now he is beating the box in a much better place!

My condolences to Johnnies friends and family.
I 1st met Johnnie through a phone call back in 2000. He contacted me due to his interest in "House Renovations" (A bi-weekly event that Sean Smith and I threw). He was excited that we were bringing the flavor back to the Chi. He explained to me that he was making a come back after laying off the decks (in order to teach his Club D.J. Class @ Columbia College Chicago) for a minute. We were both honest to each other, me in telling him that the nights were kinda slow. Him in telling me that it did'nt matter that he just wanted to play. His persistence paid off. a month later when the schedule was open we put him on the roster. He came in and rocked it!
We kept in contact with each other through supporting each others events. The last time I saw/heard Johnnie was when he blew up Subterrainean on his birthday. His appearence was different but the enthusiasm and smile that I knew never changed.
Rest in Peace Hermano.

damn. shit. joe "doggs", this is trent odeneal from shop class(1983,"watch the closing doors"...). i hope you remember me. man we used to trip every morning(singing the mixes n'shit). for those of you who never met johnnie- this was one of the coolest, most laid back, ego-less cats i'd ever met. in high school he was shy but not anti-social. he would let me come over after school and practice mixing. those were the first real tables i'd spun on(john rocca days). we'd play basketball(dunkin' on those 8' rims n' shit), the whole nine. joe i know you remember. i can hear his mom now...fussing at him because we had the music up too loud in the basement..."johnnie!!! turn that music down!!!" then he'd say something like, "it's only on 2 ma!!" we'd spin for like 2 more hours, same volume if not louder. joe, if you read this and get time, hit me at: trentgroovz@mailcity.com. i'll pass this tragic news on and try to make the services.

My memory of Johnnie:
Last year, when I had my first DJ Free-4-All, I wanted to do a collection for Johnnie for some of his medical costs. He came by the party with his ladyfriend. He told me that he apreciated the gesture, but his pride wouldn't let him take it. He felt that he could beat his illness, so "thanks, but no thanks!" But, he said he didn't mind having a chicken wing! biggrinangel.gif
I found him to be a talented dj and, more important, a gentle soul. As with all of you, I will keep a special place in my heart for him!
God Speed on your journey, my friend!
We will miss you! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
