...This really brought it home for me:

Yesterday I was coming back to NYC from my weekly trip to Englewood. Riding across the bridge, traffic was kind of slow. On a clear, sunny day to my right I saw my beautiful home town. To my left, my home borough and the Tappan Zee. Looking again to my right, among the bikers and strollers across the bridge I see two soldiers in camoflage fatigues each carrying an M16. Real, live M16 rifles. I'd never seen that before. Not here. Not in my NYC. Not in my USA.

A friend of mine takes the metro every day to work (DC). On a daily basis she sees armed guards. It's really affecting her, bringing the war much closer to home.

Shock value..disturbing nonetheless...soon they will be policing us.

I see them every morining (for a year now) as I pass through the Wintergarden of the World Financial Center on my way into my building, I also see them as I pass through Times Sq. subway station getting on the 2/3 going downtown.

I suppose I am used to it at this point, but it does not make me feel "safe".

Can anyone say police state? The Novus Ordo Seclorum (New World Order) is closer than you think. graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

People in Europe have been dealing with this kind of thing for ages now. America's just catching up.

A lot of people probably feel much safer with the presence of armed soldiers.
