About 4 months ago I purchased the Pioneer HDJ-1000 Pro DJ headphones to replace my worn Sony MDR-V700 DJ Headphones, last night they fell apart on me. What piece of shit construction. That plastic piece that holds the headband together, well, it came loose. The plastic piece where the screws go is stripped. So I call Guitar Center, where I purchased them, and they are like well all we can do is send them to go fixed, we can't replace them. So **** that shit, I ordered me the Sennheiser HD25, which is what I should have bought in the first place.

$259.95 plus shipping... graemlins/nono.gif At least I have a two year warranty with these versus the standard 90 day piece of shit warranty Pioneer and Sony offer. You know they only do that because they can't stand by their product, it's like a good http://deephousepage.com/smilies/focking.gif.

Oh well thats what I get for being el cheapo...

At least I will have them here before my Monday gig, which would have been really sucking ass with broken headphones.

Sorry... But I had to let it out.

Ouch! I've heard a few horror stories about those Pioneers, as well as the Technics. Sorry to hear that happened to you. I know the frustration. It's a beeotch!

Even better, go to Target and get yourself some KOSS headphones. Cheap as dirt and they last at least one year if you take care of them. http://deephousepage.com/smilies/smokin.gif

bought a sennheiser some time ago, never regretted it. sound quality is superior to any headphone i heard (compared them in the shop), and any part can be replaced. graemlins/acclaim.gif

Been using that same pair since 2001. They hang in the back of my head, and with a wire extention, I don't have to take them off when looking for records in my crates.

They're very durable, may not be suitable for a Club setting (although I did use them and they worked well) but these headphones are made with literally 3 components, not 10, 11 or 12 screws, and hinges like those ridercerous (Seinfeld) expensive ones.

Peace

They got blown on a shitty Mackie mixing board that had a short. They are the shit... That's why I said **** it and I'll explain it to my wife how and why I just blew close to $400 bills between records and new headphones, ouch... I think I'm gonna be sleeping on the couch for a bit... graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

I got the Sony MDR-V600's late last year.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-T3udvzjgkUJ/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=158MDRV600

Very, very pleased with these. I use them for DJ-ing and for mixing/setting levels in the studio. Very warm, clear sound.

the only sony's worth getting are the 7506 and the 7509s. otherwise stick to sennheisers. audiotechnica make a decent pair. i've had my technics rpdj1200a for 2 years now and i haven't had any issues with them at all.

I bought these recently:
http://www.sapphires.co.uk/prodimages/hd280.jpg
sennheiser hd280's, somewhat bulkier and heavier than hd25's, but a lot cheaper, great sound, and really good closure on them. probably intended more for the studio than dj'ng but only cost me £79

My question to you all with these big ass ear muffs killing your ears.

What happens when these shits break, and they will break.

I can bend the crap out of mine and they won't break.

If you have to adjust something to your liking, expect drama.

You laugh, but when it comes time for you to buy another pair because the left cone fell off while you're mixing, who will have the last laugh?

The second time I ended up with KOSS and my Sony's were a gift. I still have the Sennheisers, one day I'll get them fixed again and use them for home listening.

These are the ones I had, I wanted to extra sound that the 25's put. First time I used the HD25's was with a freind of mine from France... NICE SOUND...

I don't have to worry about constantly adjusting then on my head, my neck bent to the side because of those stupid lollipop sticks, having to remove them from your hear to listen to the monitor.

Again, Simplicity.

I don't understand why people want to make life harder on themselves.

When it comes to ANY dj gear that will be subjected to the rigours of club use and the knocks of transport, it has to be easily servicable i.e. replacement parts and service have to be available in the local area. I broke one of the cups off my Sony headphones and the part was available for CDN $15.99 within three days. Technics turntables, all parts in production and easily obtained. The idea of buying new gear every time a piece of equipment breaks (even headphones) is simply not sustainable. I hear this the most with dj mixers: "Oh, some of the pots are scratchy so I need a new mixer." Serviceability should definitely be a key criteria when buying equipment.

Simplicity i was laughing but only cos in all honesty, i do think they look better than my sony duds which i prolly paid a hell of a lot more for....they're still intact but the sound quality is screwed.

Groove,

The sound quality on those lower budget headphones won't stand up in most bar/club environment because they don't offer enough closure and the drivers aren't made to handle the outputs on most mixer outputs. This usually results in a loss of clarity as the cheap drivers become overloaded. Most people I know find the "bulkier" headphones more comfortable. They also have anywhere from 6 - 12 foot cords, plenty long enough to go from the decks to the bag. A good pair of headphones will outlast most mixers out there.

Prince HiFi I understand but if after 4 months this happened I'd rather just replace them. Eventually I will get the Pioneers fixed but they will sit on a shelf for emergencies or something. It's not a reliable product Sennheiser is reliable and for Groove Victim his Walkman headphones are reliable. My Sony's lasted a few years, I just wanted to try out these new Pioneers everyone was raving about. Don't get me wrong I think the sound is for sure better than the Sony's but the construction sucks ass...

Maybe we're programmed to listen to the wrong things when cueing up music. Ever thought of that?

It's like jumping out of a pool of hot water, then going into another pool full of cold water. A shock to the system when your ear is engulfed by a huge earmuff and your concentration is only on one song, instead of two, then the fact that you can't hear whats going on in the booth and outside in the club, well that's another story.

I had trouble with one channel going out on my Pioneer headphones but other than that I think they are pretty sturdy.

JL

Groove, while I understand your frame of reference analogy, is it really applicable? Isn't the purpose of having headphones to hear the cue channel before playing it on the main pa system? In that case, clarity and closure seem to be the purposeful attributes of functional headphones/cue monitors. The question I pose to you may be one of preference, in which case neither of us are wrong or right, but merely expressing preferences.

It definately is a preference, but at the same time, I'm not one of those DJs that sits there for 5 minutes trying to beat sync a record.

Then again I don't have the experience as most CLub DJs out there.
