I think simplicity really works on a lot of records, I admire this in house music

a lot of times i find myself saying how simple, but effective a track is. it's easy to 'over' do a track, over produce. restraint can be a good thing or just knowing when to let a track be.
im coming to learn "less is more" is a fundamental concept for most things in life, music, everything ...

there's a dream sequence in "Six Degrees of Separation" where Donald Sutherland's character (an high-end art dealer) is walking through the halls of his kids' elementary school. He asks the second grade teacher something like "how do you do it? the 1st graders' work is mediocre. The 3rd grade students - unpromising. But the second graders - your class - each one is a Picasso! How do you do it?"
To which she replies, "I just know when to take their brush away from them."
