that errrrbody gotta blow up New York? Not Detroit, LA, Beijing, Delhi, Rome, London, Paris? Nooooooooo!
(picturing screen writers, currently on strike and therefore NOT blowing up NY)..." yeah, yeah...i know, i got it!! We gotta blow up...New York! We can get that footage from (insert movie title here) and not even have to shoot it, they can just retouch it!!...."

Could someone blow up orlando or some OTHER city?

...of course I know they sometimes ALSO blow up a few other cities and let us watch...but somewhere in there...loving attention given to decapitating the Statue of Liberty...the top of the Empire State Building slides off or blows up...the Brooklyn Bridge falls into the river ...

wait...ever notice that the George Washington Bridge gets nearly no attention?Always just that Brooklyn Bridge...Verrazano Bridge? So it's not even ALL of New York...just part of it. Same bits again and again. Hmmmmm...might need to tailor this rant...

It doesn't look good for farming communities.

Big cities pack a bigger punch.

Now that you mention that. The only movie I remember seeing the GW bridge in was "Cop Land". But it wasn't being blown up.

I have no answer to that question, but I did do a lil reading on the Cloverfield movie, and it did get me thinking over the weekend. Next to maybe Tokyo, New york is the most fucked down or put upon city in movies:

King Kong (3 movies, all ending in with Kong on top the Empire state)

Deep Impact (tsunami hits NYC)

Day after tommorrow (NYC gets flooded, and gets super frozen)

Planet of the apes (Charlton Heston discovers he's on earth in the future when he finds lady liberty sticking out of the sand)

The Seige (NYC gets its on 2 different levels. First, terrorists blow up various parts of NYC, then the army comes in and marshall law goes in effect)

Godzilla (lizards fucks down NYC, has babies in MSG, MSG gets blown up, and Zilla finally gets killed by rocket attack while tangled up in the Brooklyn bridge)

MIB (aliens on earth, and the humans that see them or some other odd stuff get their memories erased. NYC World fair gets mashed up)

Die Hard with a Vengeance (bank robbers frontin as terrorists torment a cop by blowing stuff up in NYC, all the while breakin in and stealing the entire Federal Reserve Bank of New York)

I am Legend (super virus wreaks havoc, bridges leading out of the city are bombed, single man and a dog, fend for themselves againts escaped zoo animals and mutant vampires)

Fantastic four I and II (superheroes fight evil on the streets of NYC, cars, buses, and buildings messed up)

Spiderman (see Fantastic Four)

Independance Day (UFO fucks down Empire state building)

Armageddon (meteors fuck down Chrysler buildiing, Grand central, and WTC)

Dog Day Afternoon (bank robbers hold hostages)

The Inside man (see Dog Day)

New Jack City (drug dealers bumrush and take control of a massive apartment bulding)

Ghost Busters I and II (spirits come and terrorize NYC, Stay Puff man mushes NYC, a river of slime flows underground in the subway and sewer systems, lady liberty is animated and breaks free from her perch)

Highlander (immortals fighting on the streets and rooftops of NYC)

Rosemary's Baby (woman gives birth to the devil or son of the devil in the Dakota)

Year of the Dragon (Triads tear of Chinatown)

Failsafe (Human and computer error resuts in the nuclear bombiing of Moscow and NYC)

There's a bunch more, but cant remeber them now...

There's a possibility.
NY apparently is Sodom and Gomorrah ergo it must go...

but it just doesn't seem fair..that's all...

what with "fuck/s/ed down" in that piece. I don't think I ever heard it used in this context (somewhere being blowing up or whater.) Fucked up yes, but not fucked down.

Interchangebale words and interchangeble meanings. The words could mean something or someone was knocked down and fucked up, or fucked up good, or fucked up REAL GOOD, proper fucked, knocked the fuck out, or, just fucked so well, that we left an imprint in the sheets, mattress, pillows, etc.

It's all in the context.
