On our constant quest for quality sound, Smooth Agent Records would like to ask our D.H.P. family who they would recomend for pre-mastering?
Our goal is to have the same high quality sound as Classic records, Naked music and Soulforic etc.
Thanks for all your help! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
We have been more than happy with the work of Trutone. Here's their website:

I'll have to agree with you Mark. Trutone does do great work. We pressed with them before but never pre-mastered. Hence the post. Thanks for the confirmation. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

What about Planet Sound Studios? It's a beautiful facility and It's a full Pro Tools environment which I think is what them Naked Music people are on.

Honestly, I don't particularly care for Naked's mastering... its boring. Its all the exact same level, exact same sound, just droning on. To me they compress/even the life out of their songs.
Its one thing to go for clear and loud, but if I were you, I'd shoot for clean crispness in your individual sounds, EQ your individual sounds to accent the full range of the music, get the levels even, throw a LITTLE compression and then just bump up the overall levels.
Mastering can only accomplish so much and if your individal sounds aren't crisp across the whole spectrum, and not muddling each other up, all mastering is gonna do is make it muddled and loud. A good sound engineer in the studio while recording is 10 times more important than mastering if you ask me.
There are software plug ins available for Cubase, Sonar etc that will master for you. I would suggest getting your hands on those and play around with them.
Peace

Peace Actually we do premaster a little but not too heavy. But mastering for vinyl I think it best left up to the professionals. I am not a big fan of heavy compression on an overall track but I do like basslines that stand out that you can feel.
The pre mastering houses I know about that other labels use are:Trutone, The Exchange, Abbery Road and Franfort Wayne. We are still curious to find out about somemore..

How about Ron Murphy at National Sound Corporation in Detroit who cut for UR records and DNH (Nick Holder) among others. That's who I'd go with.
