I myself take at least 90 records because I have to have enough so if the other dj plays the same record im going to play I spin something different or remix it right there & then...

Depends on how long I'm playing. I carry a shoulder bag and get at least four/five hours of music.

Greetings Alfonso aka DjRaare:

About 20 hours of music. Based on full play of of each song = one record box of goodies. Average time of play is 6 to 9 hours per party.

depends of course how long, if I know what the people will dig, if they asked me to spin more of a certain flavour of house, etc...usually one record box and one shoulder bag should do the trick. I had some occasions where the dj before me spinned really hard and techy and the people digged it, but I didnt bring any of that house, don't think I have much of that, welll not stuff that I still spin nowadays anyway. But it sux that I had to totally build it down over 2 songs...lost the people on the dancefloor of course :(

Depending on the timing of the set it can vary, 200 to 250 records. Some times the mood changes and I like to be ready for almost anything.... I'll take that many records to 4 hour sets or 8-9 hour sets... It don't matter. I just like to ready at all cost..... Nice lil thread...

I used to bring way too many records to a party. I'm talking at least 4 crates even if I was only going to be playing a couple of hours. Now I bring no more than 2 crates and sometimes only one.

I usually bring a bag and a crate or a simply a bag if Im only playing for an hour or less. One time I was headlining w/ Jerome Syndenham and he only brought like ten records and a couple of CD's. I was dumbfounded!! It worked and he rocked it so, htat's what really counts.

Always more than I need, cause I never know where it's going to go...

2-4 crates depending on how long I'm scheduled to play. I don't pre-program ANYTHING, so I like to have as many options as possible......JMJ

Depends on how long and where I'm spinning. Usually about 2-3 times as many records that I'm supposed to play, depends if I'm the only dj or someone else is playing before me, don't want to be caught playing the same recs. If I'm doing sets longer than 4 hrs I usually have to rely on the latests CDRs too since it gets to heavy to carry for me otherwise.

Years of carrying too many records has left my back in a condition that I cannot carry more than one bag of records without risking serious injury.

I had to learn how to pack a proper bag. Usually, I am playing a 2 or 3 hour set, so one bag is adequate given the formula I use (I figure 3 minutes per song minimum, divided into 180 minutes = 60 records - this leaves plenty of room - I bring more compilations and CDs and pack a few extra gems of each "style" (harder, more mellow, classics, jazz, etc.), while still saving myself from having to be taken out of the gig on a stretcher (it happened once :( ).

If I am going to be playing for a much longer set, I will pack one additional bag or a small flight case, but that's when I have to reach out for assistance getting my music to and from the gig. Given my circumstances, I try to do this anyway, since a visit to the doctor is surely more expensive and painful than paying for someone's drinks and cabfare for the night.

Friends, PLEASE be careful. You only have ONE back and if you f*ck it up, you're pretty much done. I'm blessed that I have a great chiropractor who can work wonders, but no one should have to suffer through the EXCRUCIATING pain and PARALYSIS associated with slipped/herniated discs, hernias or persistent muscle strains, which you'll surely get unless you lighten that load.
