well, those who could not stand the song better get used to hearing lots and lots of copycats in the future because clearly there is a huge market for this.

Soulja Boy Makes History As 'Crank That' Passes The 3,000,000 Mark In Downloads

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Top40 Charts/ Interscope Records) - The first artist to rack up 3,000,000 downloads of a digital track/song is a teenager! "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" from 17-year-old rap phenom Soulja Boy Tell'em officially surpassed the landmark number this week.
Grammy nominated for Best Rap Song and the No 1 song on the Hot 100 chart for seven weeks, "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" has also sold more than 3,000,000 ringtones and its music video has been viewed an incredible 28,000,000 times on YouTube.
In addition, the instructional dance video has been viewed 22,000,000 times and the video for the single "Soulja Girl" (featuring I-15) 11,000,000 times. Not surprisingly then, his website is also the No 1 most viewed artist site on the Web, with more than 1,000,000 unique hits per month. His MySpace page has recorded 27,000,000 profile views and 31,000,000 audio streams. The charismatic Souljaboy is also being seen on cellphones worldwide via Soulja Boy TV (SBTV), a free mobile television WAP site.

"Soulja Boy has set the bar for what's possible in terms of breaking an artist online," commented Steve Berman, President of Sales and Marketing for Interscope Geffen A&M Records. "He's been doing it since day one, before he was signed here, so I'm not surprised he's setting a record today. Soulja Boy is out there on the frontier, showing everyone else what's possible."

"I can't thank my fans enough, without them all of this wouldn't have been possible. The support they give me is beyond incredible. I have so many Soulja Boy Tell'em projects ready and I will continue to give them what they need in 2008. Yuuuuaaaa!!" exclaims Soulja Boy Tell'em.

With his debut album, Souljaboytellem.com (ColliPark Music/Interscope Records), rocketing past its gold certification - having sold more than 658,000 copies to date - Soulja Boy is the biggest selling new hip-hop or R&B artist of 2007.

But he's not stopping there. Kicking off 2008, his video for the album's third single, "Yahhh!" (featuring Arab), premiered this week on BET's "Access Granted" and on Yahoo! Music. The behind-the-scenes feature on "Yahhh!" has already been viewed 1,200,000 times on YouTube.
The story of Soulja Boy Tell'em has just begun.

Like everything else it'll pass

He did not pass the sea, just discovered him 3 minutes ago.
And I don't think he'll pass 3 years more, someone will be launching the new style.

I heard Crank hip hop like 10 years ago, or maybe it's newer than that?

Not my tune in any way shape or form, but as mfsb said, congratulations to the young guy, that is something to behold at 16, like it or loath it.
It's for the kids, not an ole hard-headed house man like me :grinyes:

Threads like this always make me see this in my sleep

http://www.jfsowa.com/figs/horse.gif
Figure 4: EG for "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."

Figure 4 shows one of his examples with red (or shading) to indicate possibility. The graph contains four ovals: the outer two form a scroll for if-then; the inner two represent possibility (shading) and impossibility (shading inside a negation). The outer oval may be read If there exist a person, a horse, and water; the next oval may be read then it is possible for the person to lead the horse to the water and not possible for the person to make the horse drink the water.

The notation "—leads—to—" represents a triad or triadic relation leadsTo(x,y,z), and "—makes—drink—" represents makesDrink(x,y,z). In the algebraic notation with the symbol ◊ for possibility, Figure 4 maps to the following formula:
~(∃x)(∃y)(∃z)(person(x) ∧ horse(y) ∧ water(z) ∧ ~(◊leadsTo(x,y,z) ∧ ~◊makesDrink(x,y,z))). With the symbol ⊃ for implication, this formula becomes

(∀x)(∀y)(∀z)((person(x) ∧ horse(y) ∧ water(z)) ⊃ (◊leadsTo(x,y,z) ∧ ~◊makesDrink(x,y,z))). This version may be read For all x, y, and z, if x is a person, y is a horse, and z is water, then it is possible for x to lead y to z, and not possible for x to make y drink z. These readings, although logically explicit, are not as succinct as the proverb You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.
