Ahhh, Talisker...like drinking liquid white pepper...great stuff for a Northeast winter. I have some of this on the go at the moment: 56% alcohol, like standing near a bunch of tar shingles and seaweed on fire...

I'm a much bigger fan of the flavour of smoke than I am that of peat, which tastes like dirt to me.

IMHO, Lagavulin, Talisker and Bowmore are the two smokiest single malts out there (perhaps Caol Ila too). Other Islay/island whiskies, like Laphroaig, Ardbeg, some Juras are very peaty.

...this was incredible in the tavern at the Tam O' Shanter Inn in Los Feliz. All the tartans and history on the walls in that joint, I think I found out who knocked up my great grandmother...or owned my great grandmother and THEN knocked her up. Anyhow, awesome spot.
