been burning a lot of oldies to CD..i get to bring more music while conserving space. The whole damn process is tedious as hell but i figured i may as well start now. This should be especially helpful for those cake mobile gigs which never really seem to need the presence of two turntables anyhoo

funny you say that Ray - I have a few deals that have been worked out to do just that in the immediate future.

sidenote: about 3 or 4 years ago, a DJ who specialized in Jewish Singles events at clubs like Roxy, Twilo, etc. decided to move back to his homeland Israel... he burned every one of his records onto CD (every mix) in his small DJ studio in the East Village. He then tried to find someone to buy out his 10 year lease on the space. It actually wasn't that much cash at all. Anyway, whoever took it got all of his equipment, plus all of his records, plus the lease on the space (no neighbors, enough room to live, albeit rather tight and like 30,000 records), while dude went back to Israel with 30,000+ tracks on CD.

I would think that a duplicate set of those CDs would be worth more right now than the 10 year lease, and the equipment combined... now THAT is a "DJ in a box" icon_rofl.gif

This serves a really good purpose, not only do you have less to carry you now have a back up. this is crazy but i have a back up of my back up just in case if im out and someone takes my CD case i have another duplicate. I did have an advantage i dont have the extensive collection some of you have so it was a bit easier for me but still tedious as hell!!!!.

I started backing up my collection to CD about 4 years ago.
it's Ok to backup but I want shit to be right so I run it through Free Protools and get rid of the pops and cracks. It takes me much longer but in the end getting alot of my stuff that hasn't come out on CD is great.
