i pretty much exclusively go to dj events and I've been in the mood lately to check out some live music.
usually for me it's Antibalas or Sharon Jones....but i need something else.
i really want to see some jazz..but I'm not really sure who or where to go in new york..I mean I know the legendary spots, but I'm more concerned with who to check out.
yes, all the time. i've been going to a lot more concerts/live events nowadays than going to parties/clubs. it's a better experience to me when i see someone that is actually playing an instrument. any schmuck can play records but not everyone can play an instrument.

Love live events...
Couldn't recommend it highly enough. If you're into house, check out your Osunlade, Tortured Souls, Pevin, Elements of Life live on stage, it sometimes make the records sound lame in comparison.
Like what AD said, seeing a singer/ musician or a band just snapping off is off the hook. It takes skills and years of blood, sweat and practice to become an accomplished artist/musician to perform on stage.
And that human interaction, band to audience, audience to band is just a different energy that can move mountains.
I would like to see more live (house) bands on stage and appearing in clubs alongside DJs more.
