NU SOUL @ RADIOIO.COM

Hello. I have been gone from this forum for a while- but I have been busy doing some work which may benefit the House Music community. I hope.

It has always been my theory that lack of mainstream prime time radio play is what has hurt House Music (lets just call the soulful influenced dance music that for now, ok?) the most since the glory days of the early to mid 90's.

If the people don't hear it, they wont buy it. And as someone who has done their fair share of record store work back in the day: Even if you play it for them ...and THEY LIKE IT...they might not buy it because "Well, It's good...but why I dont hear it on the radio?" If you only play music at a club, people will pay to go the club and hear the music- but they will RARELY seek it out to buy. If they hear it in the club AND hear it on the radio....they WILL buy. I saw the old Garage (hear it at the club)/WBLS (hear it on the radio)/Vinylmania ("you Manny you got that joint Larry played?") dynamic at work myself. It was powerful and it was REAL.

Face it....in our own way we are sheep. We need to graze in a familiar contented field. And our familiar contented field- RADIO- abandoned our music LONG AGO. YES, there are specialized shows on Analog radio. And god bless our internet and satellite heroes (Traxsource~!! Cyberjams ~!! All those cats who post and have House Music streams in their signatures~!!).

Thing is though, if you keep the music over "here"- seperate from the other musics- it becomes an ever reducing niche. But, keep it together....play it side-by-side with all of the other NEW independent music coming out....and a whole NEW picture begins to emerge. Why shouldn't Tortured Soul play side by side with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings? Why not Arnold Jarvis playing with Amerie?

All of you independent producers do this for LOVE and PROFIT. Every little thing anybody can do to help YOUR music get sold and distributed is a positive. In this ever-changing NEW WAY TO DO MUSIC BUSINESS WORLD...everything anybody can do to keep it going? Those things just may help.

A friend of mine- BOB DAVIS- of Soul-Patrol.com was given the chance to program several Soul/R&B music streams at Radio IO based on his success at his own Soul-Patrol website. (www.soul-patrol.com)
I was given the chance to assist Bob. Bob rolled out a Nu-Soul station. The Nu-Soul station plays the usual suspects...with a twist. Yes you WILL hear Eric Roberson, Gordon Chambers, Angela Johnson...but you will ALSO hear Arnold Jarvis, Mettle Music, Bettye Lavette, Chuck D, Chrisette Michele....all playing and singing side by side. IMAGINE A NU SOUL station that plays all of our music TOGETHER. Think of it like an Aural Thankgiving. Raheem may be doing his thing over "there", Dennis F. may be doing his thing over "there", Bootsy C. may be doing his thing "out there"....but we set up the table and bring THE FAMILY TOGETHER. To me...it may be corny for some of you (and I respect that), but there is something nice about being home with peeps that love you. And I LOVE MUSIC. Check out our new adds below:

There have been SOME problems. Like (for instance) the Arnold Jarvis CD is MIXED. I had to edit and create fades. Some tracks are created for use as a DJ TOOL. They have loooonngg intros and loooonnnggeerrrr outros. If possible, if you dig what the station is....if you like it and think your music would fit? Do you have edits? I BUY MUSIC. Anybody that knows me KNOWS I buy from Traxsource (a little), Various Internet stores- Juno, Amazon, CD-Baby, Dustygroove (a lot~!!). But if you can pass us a promo file? HELP US HELP YOU.
Contact me. Send me a PM. Or contact the stream host as you listen to the show (Bob Davis).

Lost in the discussion between myself and Mike is what I didn't announce. We are also doing a Classic Hip-Hop station. I wanted Mike to announce that. Mike has been posting here non-stop. I stopped. Therefore I felt that his words would carry more weight than mine. Who's gonna take the weight? My man Mike Barnes...That's Who~!!
And Mike, I didnt get in touch with anybody YET. I want the stream to be UP so I show and prove. I'll be looking to get in touch with those people by next week.

I dont have the following tracks that you offered:
New York City Rap-Spyder D
There's got to be-CeCe Rodgers
Real love-Mj White
In between us-The Colonel Featuring Rose Stone

Everything else I have. Some of those tracks, even though I have them- wont get played right away. Like any station who wants to keep things fresh we are rotating things IN and OUT over time. We have several streams going already:

Classic Soul- Where you can hear The Dells, Main Ingredient, MFSB, Marvin Gaye www.radioio.com/channels/classic-rnb

RNB MIX- Where you can hear Alexander O'Neal, Eric Roberson, Run DMC
www.radioio.com/channels/rnb-mix

NuSoul- Where you can hear Gabriela Anders, Ray J, Arnold Jarvis, Erykah Badu www.radioio.com/channels/nusoul

COMING (by the end of this week) is:
Classic Hip-Hop- Where you can hear Treacherous Three, Pumpkin, Jay-Z, Craig G. (I'll post the address when we go up.)

Give us a chance. Listen at home or work for 30 minutes and let us know what you think?

Artists. If you think you can fit any formats we have up PLEASE send me a PM or contact us thru the website.
