Same here, all I was waiting on was war issues. When Hillery (s/p) said that nothing could be done about a troop pull-out in Iraq till 2013 - she lost any chance for the Family Vote. My whole family is voting for Obama...i'm talking distant, in-laws etc.

Obama is not going to pull out those troops either.

I doubt the new president can popularly reverse the defence and security strategy in place since 9/11 that easily, or within a first term of office. There certainly is no majority backing from the population. Obama himself has not made the pull-out one of his campaign priorities, unless that is what he means by 'change'.

Not true on Obama. He has consistently said that he intends to have all combat troops out of Iraq by the end of 2009.

If i were an "insurgent leader" I would just ease up for 2 yrs. recruit new soldiers, train them and brain wash them. wait till the Americans pulled out. After the U.S. left go all out and throw over the Iraq Government.

Wouldn't it make more sense to set up an american military base there similar to the one in North Korea?

That may indeed happen if we stay there 2 years, 20 years or 200 years. I think we want to be responsible leaving since George Bush created this mess, but 4,000 American soldiers are already dead (not to mention civillians and innocent Iraqis), America is no safer, Iraq is apparently no closer to any political reconciliation, and our financial investment in Iraq is destroying our economy. It is time for our troops to come home.

I think this is why an immediate pull out would be so difficult to do, but we can stay there much longer. Man I wish we had never gone over there...

Key word is COMBAT TROOPS. Unfortunately, Iraq means TOO much to the world economy to NOT have a US presence there. There will be a significant US presence in Iraq for the next few decades. Its simply NOT in our best interest to leave the area. We need a Middle Eastern place to keep our shit and to keep the rest of the middle east in line and Israel aint close enough.. Its time we realize that whoever the President, taking troops out immediately is NOT a smart economic move.

It's a no win situation for the new President.

Pull out to quick and run the risk of having the region go to shit. oil prices would go thru the roof.

Stay and more american troops & Iraq civilians will be killed and maimed.

i don't envy the new Commander in Chief who ever he or she may be.

I agree 100%. As fucked up as that may sound it's true. same people asking for a full pull out are the first to bitch when oil goes to 300 dollars a barrel

Yes, combat troops is his point. I think the extent of any remaining presence remains to be seen.

we need to pick up and leave. the war was unjustified. the longer we stay the worse it will be.

btw/ why can't the united nations go in there, and do the job? after all it was the council on foreign relations, the trilateralists, the bilderburg, skull, and bones etc. who made the decision to go there. let rockerfeller and his u.n. boys go in there, and clean it up, the bilderburg planned it, let them go clean it up.

it sure was not the congress (american voters) who authorized bush to go in the first place......

i guess it's kinda hard to turn your back on $6,000,000,000,000.00 dollars worth of oil......:conf44:
