um, yeah I'll get burnt for this statement
graemlins/respekt.gif
but there is a whole generation of clubbers who love hosue music and never went to the Paradise Garage as well.

I respect those who went there, those who played, I respect the era BUT ya'll gotta move on & groove on graemlins/respekt.gif

just my 2 cents while were on this subject. ;)

I know! Let's make posting your house resume a requirement for posting on DHP. Or, better yet, make them answer the "You Ain't Really House" exam. A draft is below:

1.Were you ever a member of the Music Box? Which location? Note: Please affix your original membership card to this exam.

2. Did you party at the Warehouse? Which one? What drugs were on you on January 17, 1984?

3. Did you ever have to pay to get into a party? If so, which ones, and how many times?

4. Match the name of the club with its location:
LaRay's
Igloo's
Medusa's
Powerhouse
Music Box (all three incarnations)
Warehouse (name all addresses)
Sauer's
Power Plant
Candy Store
Reactor
Generator
Edge of the Lookingglass
AKA's
Coconut's (sidenote: met my hubby here)
B-Side Cafe

5.Name the 10 songs played most often at various hole-in-the-wall loft parties between the years 1982 and 1988.

6. Name the type of cologne Ron Hardy doused on his left pinkie toe before spinning at every party.

7. After a night (morning) of jacking, where did real househeads go?
A. Breakfast at any Golden Nugget
B. Breakfast at Tempo's
C. The back of a paddywagon
D. Puking in the nearest gutter
E. The no-tell motel
F. All of the above

8. What sexual acts did you perform/have performed while on the dancefloor at ______ (Hint: the address was 2210 S. Michigan) on August 21, 1986?

True HouseHeads know the answer to these questions:

What color are the feathers on a Perdue Chicken?

How many times the Batmobile catch a flat?

How many licks do it take to get to the center of the Earth?

The #3 on the menu at Golden Nugget consisted of what food items?

How many bus rides do it take to get on my momma's good side?

You didn't have to go to music box to understand, appreciate or support house [and the history thereof] Though, I did in fact grow up on Chicago house in the 80's (via the radio, basement, house parties) I wasn't old enough to go to clubs yet - like everyone who was 12 and went to the warehouse cause their brother snuck them in.
graemlins/cool_shades.gif
That elitist attitude isn't what house was or is about. At least not for me graemlins/conf44.gif

Hell, I never considered myself house, just a party girl doing what I had to do. I told ya'll before it was my ultimate goal to be the career party girl. I'm not one to comment on this page but, imho those were happier times that I like to remember! The "politics" were there but not as strong as they are now, there was free love and a true love for the music. Not how many women(men) I can meet and who is in the in crowd, etc, etc. I'm not saying that there isnt people loving the music but as I see on this page and in other areas you wouldn't have empty parties and promoters ending their venues if u really cared. I work and married w/kids and I'm out all the time. WHERE IS THE LOVE!! This is what causes "box heads" to go back to the past.

Now that we've gone down memory lane I remember leaving the party one morning, it was me, malcolm, cassandra, diane, jackie & her crazy ass brother's billy & chris all in this little bittie ass car.
Billy was driving on the Dan Ryan expressway & was supposed to get off at 69th st. right over there by the white building. This fool passed the exit, so he put the car in reverse speeding backwards down the expressway, he couldn't see shit out of the back window cause it was about 7of us in the little ass car. When we finally got off of the expressway we got out of his car and got on the damn bus. graemlins/rofl.gif That blew everybody's high :D

I remember when me and Germain would catch the Metra from the South Suburbs, get on the El at 87th from there reconize other househeads and ask where the party at. Then we just follow. It would be about Twenty of us getting off the El going to the party. Sometimes walking far as hell. We use to didn't have anyway home so we would sleep in the Metra station till the first train left that morning.

Question: Did they used to put something in the smoke coming out of the smoke machines (which I never liked + the seizure-inducing, super-fast strobe lights) at the Powerhouse or other joints? I used to come home, blow my nose and all this black stuff would come out. I swear I had somebody's contact high, and it always had to do with those danng-on smoke machines! :D

I missed my stop.I was so damn tired and worn out,I slept in the damn park on a bench.

I also remember a time when me,my wife, she was my girly at the time, and my cousin were walking down 22nd st.My cousin stepped on a rat outside of the Ickes. The rat screamed,we screamed and ran like hell. graemlins/rofl.gif

A record called Community comes to mind, in which Ron Carrol says something like 'so many people talkin bout we dont do it the way we used to do it, but why dont we start concentrating on doing it the way we need to do it now, and leave the past, in the past...' ! Maybe Ron can correct me/expand on those lyrics a little, but it seems appropriate to this thread!

no disrepect intended to anybody past or present it just sprang to mind

Peace!

Maybe I have you confused with Discolady? Nan, we had a suprize birthday for her last year, you were the ghost host.

Maybe Diskoqueen99? Nan, i've known her for a while now, she is not the host type.

If you're the DHP Chicago party host that was standing in the rain trying to get in that party...I guess I don't have you confused.

What does genious mean?
Only a genious would go on DHP / BTH and say they were the host of an event - when reality states - they were waiting in-line in the rain like everybody else. I could be wrong but...the host is there to meet and greet their guest as they come in. I guess this is a new way of hosting an event.

http://deephousepage.com/smilies/shithappens.gif What's with the recent fascination about the DHP Labor Day parties, nearly a month after they took place? WHY DO YOU CARE? I was asked if I wanted to be a hostess. The "duties" were to promote the party and show up to the events. I did that. You and others' assessments of when I showed up, how I showed up, and how long I waited in line at Slick's make no sense to me.

The hostessing gig really wasn't the big deal yall are making it out to be, and I'm surprised that you take delight in "roasting" me about something that put no money in my or your pockets.

Lastly, please show me ANY post, on DHP or Bring the Heat, where I made mention of being a hostess at these events. I honestly don't know what you're talking about, which is why I thought you must have me confused with someone else.

Okay, I should have clarified, especially to a man like Leonard, with superior language skills, that I meant: "find one previous post (previous = before Sept. 24, 2003) in which I stated that I was going to be a hostess for these parties." Again I ask LRR: why is this important to you? Why do you care? Were you one of the party organizers? Did you set up the guidelines for those who were involved in any way?

Enjoy your threads and posts about me. I'm glad to see that my fan club is up and running. smile.gif

i'm really tired of the drama, esp. all the jabs at my friend a.k.a. discogoddess to those of you who don't know her in any substantive capacity.

for the record:

- she did everything that was asked of her which was nothing.
- she and rich held positions/titles that were symbolic in nature.
- aside from the fact that i too stood in the goddam rain at slick's and was properly fronted on until someone from inside recognized me, everyone had a damn good time.
- get off the woman re: dhp, she volunteered to help like many of us.
- also, she got paid what you guys got paid, jack shit!

sorry for the outburst but the reality is, every time you take a jab at her re: the dhp event, you indirectly take a jab at everyone who worked to make the entire weekend successful.

graemlins/lol.gif It happened to you at the Basement(on 76th and Cottage) when you was guest DJ. I never bombed so bad that the promoter turned off the power on my ass!!!!!

And at RELAX when you played that bad luck edit I was the only one on the floor!!!!!!and that was to figure what the hell you was doing!!!!!......

I still got that Mega mix that you put "george of the jungle in the mix"......that picture applies more to you than me.

As far as Chromium, there was no on in the place to begin with when I spun...........so nice try Gomer Pyle!!!!!!!! graemlins/rofl.gif graemlins/rofl.gif graemlins/rofl.gif

Im gonna shut this down now- here is my reply from your other post-if it repeats so what?
here it is:
Come to think of it I been to a few Relax parties and where the only person on the floor was me. And that was only to see what you called yourself doing on the other side of the DJ setup with that over produced badluck edit you played for 20 minutes.......

Funny...... if you are talking about that 2nd party you came to, there was no one in the place to begin with. That was the fault of a Promoter to talked to much crap on here. Had nothing to do with me.

I held crowds sometimes and lost them others...big deal. Everyone has at one point. Does not take from my skills as a DJ.

My only crime was inappropriate comments in February-which I apologised for them.....
These was just jokes-are you that insecure with your manhood? Everyone is still cool with you no matter what was said.........

You can sit behind your computer and post insults to me all you want. Go to the range and shoot off firearms if you want.

Be a man and take your lumps.....I did and I am not mad at anyone....I have moved on...will you?

Man, even though this post got hijacked in the end, I am so glad Dee brought this up. This topic is one the best I've seen in a while.

And Leonard, Disco, Disko, Rahaan, and whoever else is involved/instigating/perpetuating this petty stuff I see on this board and at the BTH board:

STOP IT!

These boards have people from all over the world reading these posts. So your business just doesn't get put in the street in Chicago-but in Belgium, England, Canada, Africa, The Netherlands, New York, California, France and many other places.

Plus, you all live in the same city and see each other at the same clubs every week-so just squash all this crap when you see each other. Pick up a phone, we all know someone with someone else's telephone number-squash it by phone.

I know this has nothing to do with me, but this is starting to look really bad. If anyone would like to respond to this post, my telephone number is 312 493 0638. Feel free to call and tell me how you feel the way it should be done, face to face. graemlins/cool_shades.gif

The direction this thread took is reminiscent of everything that happens in Chicago. Sad but true......JMJ :(

i never went to the box. i didn't hear ron hardy live for the first time until he played at C.O.D (my spot) after Frankie left. I walked in one night expecting to hear Frankie and it was Ron.

Hearing him play really changed my whole concept. started trying to attend all of his parties but i was a little too late (RIP).

i remember getting a flat on the way home from there one night around 75th and cottage. me and my boy walked all the way home (83rd and ashland) cuz we had no loot. to this day i don't know what the hell we were thinking. almost lost my driving privileges after that.

First time at the club (Box)I thought I damaged my ear drum after 3 days of continuous buzzing after the party.

Remember first time slamming (someone pushed me in)

Luved to "box" up the women (art of slamming without slamming)grinding was permissable

Later upgraded to hustling

Enjoyed the fruit trays, grapes and the big cooler of water (the only time I would stay in the lobby area)

The Box had the most generous people (always passing me something to inhale or put on my tongue)

Remember Ron playing Doug E Fresh edit. Damn!!!

Luved to go get some Dunken Donuts (sp) on Randoulph in the morning then head back to the party to close it out.

These were happier times....

Yea man...I guess that is why Reggie & I were never un-cool over equiptment failure... The power was not turned off, there was too much juice being drawn from the breaker box. The same thing happened at the next Basement party - higher amp breakers were put in the breaker box and that fixed all that. Speak on what you know 1st hand and not on what you herd on DHP. I guess Jamie 326 set his uncle up for failure...let you tell it like you herd it.

And at RELAX when you played that bad luck edit I was the only one on the floor!!!!!!and that was to figure what the hell you was doing!!!!!......Oh, you dance now too? When you had parties at GP on 89th & Ashland - Diskoqueen99 was your only customer.

During the DHP / Chicago picnic your QSC amp was on fire with one channel clip-ing lone the red clip light was the signal light - due to your hooking up the speaker with the polatity in reverse on one channel (which I changed)

That "George Of The Jungle" edit is a lot better that mixing Hip Hop Be Bop w/ I Know You, I Live You for sure - just because two songs are 116 BPM, that don't mean that you mix them together...Plus, if you are not playing the Tony Humphres (s/p) remix (which you dont have) it is pretty much worthless even playing.

As far as Chromium, there was no on in the place to begin with when I spun...........so nice try Gomer Pyle!!!!!!!![/ Diskoqueen99 is the designer of your mix that is on the page, she gave you a list of songs that she wanted on CD - not once did she say mix them...

These was just jokes-are you that insecure with your manhood? I guess that is why Diskoqueen99 (your biggest fan as you called her) left with me from Chromium instead of you...go figure?

A wise woman once said "if one or two people say something bad about you - it's just them...but if everybody is saying the same thing about you - it's you!

The bottom line is - it's you! People may not go on the page and say something but the general opion is, you're a good guy but bad DJ who is a name dropper seeking to get a name for yourself via another DJ's coat-tail IE: Steve Hurley.

Say what you want to about me all you want, Steve is your Idol and I beat him in his own club and walked away with $500 when the DJ battle was over. I guess I bombed that night too. Don't think that you are my enemy or anything like that because you are not...now if you wanna take it to the 1's & 2's to see who got real skills, i'm down with that and you know in you heart & mind that you cant hold a candle to me or over a turntable for me when it come to mixing, speed & tricks. Where is the V-Rod / LRR Video session when it's needed. I gotta holla at Sean Sounds and see if he can post it again.
