So I'm wondering...Are there House records labels you usually don't bother paying attention to even though they routinely put out a consistent volume of product?

Underground Construction ... lots of cheesy tracks were release by them in the 90's. If anyone knows any decent tracks by them, please post.

guidance jumped into the parallel dimension of sleepy cheese.

right up to the 50th-ish issue....guidance was what we all love it for under the "guidance" of one spencer "gemini" kincy i believe.....it was sold to these cats from the uk i think and morphed into something alien....to put it real nicely!! some good cuts here and there after the 50's but all in all musical nonsense from my vantage point.

the first cuts on the label were gold.....charlie brown, abacus, glenn underground, boo williams, alton miller, iz and diz, deep sensation, dino and terry, kevin yost, chris brann (ananda project), dj deep, callisto....GOOD STUFF!

labels i don't look twice at;

-naked
-look at you
-roi/toi
-fallout (sorry folks...shoot me now please but i really can't help it. god knows I TRIED!!)

ofcourse there will always be exceptions but for the most part...

Twisted (is this still around?)
Guidance (ok, I'll listen ocassionally but haven't picked up anything in a bit)
Soulfuric
Azuli

I'm sure there's more but since I sort of ignore them, I can't now remember them.

I thought Guidance was bought by some French cats, I could be mistaken, but a lot of their stuff was Francocentric for a while.

I agree, anything on Guidance or Defected is usually weak-assed..

Don't sleep on the early Azuli stuff, Rob Mello, Chris Duckenfield, Todd Edwards, etc

Gotta say, I picked up the trentmoller ep & love it, also really like the mixes Quentin Harris has done on Fall out...

I dont ignore any label. They might have something good on the particular release. I try to keep an open mind and ask or listen.

Truthfully, I don't look at a lot of MAW, Mainly because everyone else will be playing it.

I haven't been too happy with DEFECTED as of late. They do it every now and again but IMO not consistent.

What's up with GOSSIP records?

No matter how jaded, no matter how much I thought I might have known, the one single and most humbling moment is always when I go to hear someone play, and that hot jam they are rocking is exactly that 3rd version on the B-side I didn't have time to listen to, or the thing in the store I thought was going to suck and didn't bother trying out. Dayum! It always comes to bite me back!

So in almost 30 years of doing this, the one thing I learned is that I cannot EVER pre-judge something. (some geniuses posting these blanket opinions are probably much smarter, but I am left with listening to stuff before I judge it....)

...which in a way is what is so refreshing and democratic about dance music. Everyone has a chance!

You miss things darrow, I swear ! </font>[/QUOTE]yeah, that's very possible. It used to be one of my favorite labels and then I somehow lost that lovin feeling. It seems like I don't see a lot of Azuli in the local shops or even when I'm picking out stuff on sites like Dancetracks. Even now on their site, there are only 5 Azuli products listed (if I search by label name) and 3 are The Choice CD credited to three different DJs (what's that all about?).

I'll pay more attention and see if I'm sleeping on some stuff.

And thanks THX, I now can't stop the record from playing in my head.

Seems some people are being a bit snobby to me.

How can you be fed up with Fall-Out? (Unless you really don't like R&B style house). They have only been going for just over a year and they have been pretty consistant.

Soulfuric can be a bit formula sometimes but they still release a fair few good tunes.

Azuli have changed direction over the last 2/3 years and don't put out as much good stuff as they once did singles wise. Of late I did like Ubu "Pixels" and Chiken Lips "He not in" (though both of these had come out first on smaller labels).

Personally I tend to ignore white labels and stuff with very little info on, unless someone particularly draws my attention to it.

i don't sleep on any label and i don't even sleep on other genres, because if the shit is good it's good. also i only record shop when i have at least 5 hours to spare - never on a lunch break, etc., i have to listen to everything new

if i only went record shopping when i had 5 hours to spare i would never go record shopping at all.

i don't mind missing a record or 2. there are plenty of great tunes out there.

i'd rather spend the time in the studio.

but if you got the time...listening to everything is nice smile.gif

I try to check out as much as I can. I don't exclude any labels (or genres for that matter) when I'm on a beat mission.

I agree; Look At You and Soulfuric put out some nice work.
