Ok, i know tons of us have heard the edit of this song on numerous Hardy mixes...but my question is - was it Ron's edit? i heard that it was actually done by Derrick May.

also heard it from BMG from Detroit -
http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/TUTORS.9.0.html?act_session=87

i know everyone had their own edit of this song back in the day and there were tons of different ones floating around, but the edit ive got (which is Derricks) sounds like the one Ron plays on a lot of the mixes ive heard.

1. RBMA is NOT the authority on music....the entire project is run by the MARKETING arm of RedBull. Not saying it's not a cool project, but it's shouldn't be taken as the gospel.

2. I never heard Derrick's version, or heard that Ronnie was playing one by him.

3. Ronnie nor Frankie did their own edits. Neither of them knew how to use a razor blade for anything other than...(OK, I won't go there).

4. Ronnie and Frankie sometimes DIRECTED people to execute edits for them...sometimes people just gave them edits (myself included).

Ronnie was (and Frankie is) a great DJ. They were not musicians, engineers, or producers. They both learned "some" of those skills, AFTER 1987...

Ron had one edit where he extended parts of Let know man that was his....

There was ANOTHER edit (which broke it down further ) that people swore up and down that it was done on a sampler....which eventually ended up on the Hot Mix 5 label as "Revoked".(with a fked up Hip Hop beat put in it)..That one was Orginally was Eric Fortunes edit. which was done one a dual cassette deck......This one was done in the late 80s-about 1988-1989...

It starts out like this: Bay-Bay-Bay-Bay-Baby! Bay-Bay-Bay-Bay-Baby! *Boom*Hey-Hey-Hey*Boom*Hey-Hey-Hey*Boom*Hey*Boom*Hey*Boom*Aw Shucks*Boom*Boom*Boom*Aw Shucks....

He got a clean copy (of Ron's Original Edit) from Eric Spencer who had alot of off Reels that supposedly came from Ron.....

Hey Wayne,

Would love to hear your insight.

I took Ronnie into the studio for the first time in 1985 to remix "Donnie",
I showed him how to use the mixing board, and he told me he had never spliced tape himself. I also took Frankie into a recording studio for the first time around 1986. Had to teach him how to use the mixing board too.
He told me that Erasmos did most of his tape edits, and that he had never even thought of making music himself. I produced Frankie's first song/track/record "You Can't Hide".

I always thought Ron and Frankie did their own edits. Wow.
I used to have an Ron Hardy edit of LNMPU where it looped the guitars from the Disco Madness version, that's my favorite edit of that tune.
I used to have a Frankie tape where he played an edit of "Earth Can be Just Like Heaven" by Two Tons of Fun. That's the best edit I've ever heard.

I know for a fact that Frankie played a ton of edits by Eramso Rivera and Mike Winston.

I also know that Ronnie played edits by other cats as well.I also know that Ronnie did his own rough edits on a tape deck and some cats re-made them tighter and gave them to him.

I had a guy who had a ton of reels that Hardy used to own. These tapes had original splices in them and everything. Some of them were edits Knuckles used to play also.

I never found out who did those original edits.

Dj Pat

Gary Baxter (voice on Adonis No Way Back) did quite a few of Ron's Edit's and re-work them also.
It was this one dude named Tank out West that did a few Edit's for Ronnie, but everyone had there hand's out giving him edit's to play.
The Cassette Deck that Ron Had (Pioneer CT-1000 ) that he played the majority of his Edit's on i've got it at home.
Gary got it from Ron, the motor went out on it and never got it fix. I got it from gary and got it fix.
Gary has a whole Box of Ron's old tape's (maybe still) , but there's this cat named Dewayne that has the reel's of Ron's music and a few Edit's.
Dewayne lost his mind back in the early 90's and locked himself in his room, Diagnosed as a Paranoid Skitzophrantic and that was that. The Family moved to Houston and the last of what i've heard Dewayne took his own life in the late 90's.
Now, (if some of you remember) Dewayne was a Dj back in the day's. Him, Gilroy "Sonic" Ruben and Sean Robbinson hung out tight. Dewayne & Tank had this one lost Box Track called "Fire Starter". That is the only track that i'm willing to PAY for. It had some old f*-up lyric's but the track itself was a heater.
Now before people start making Edit's and saying that it's a Ron's Original, "I can't turn around" Edit that Ron played at the Box has a distinctive level defect, it play's harder on the left than the right.
Hugo did a few Edit's for Ron and for Frankie, I gotta get the list to tell you all what's what.

Come on Wayne, I'm not devaluing Frankie or Ronnie, both were VERY important to House Music, and will be forever. I'm just elaborating on the myths. You might be upset about some of the things I said, but you can't say they're not true. And I didn't expose some deep dark secret about OUR friend Ron Hardy...it's kind of like saying Wayne Williams wears glasses.
As for Frankie's editing skills...according to Greg G, it sounds like he was doing some of his own splicing at the Plant...one person can't know everything, and that's why it takes contribution and discussion to get to the truth.

I know for a loooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg time, people thought that AAAAAAALLLLLLL of the tracks that were played at the BOX (326) were made by RONNIE! I remember people playing tapes and saying, "Check out this track by Ronnie". I was in the dark until Emanuel Ralford, a diehard BOXHEAD told me what was up! An there is no one on this site, then and now that knew more about the BOX (326) that "Manny".

I agree and YES there are many a Myth about back in the day about what people did. Take the Inspector Gadget edit that I did. It would be easy for someone to say that I got that Idea from the Hip Hop song "The Show" but the timeline of when I did it and people herd me play it prove that it was my own original Idea.

I can't speak much on 326 because 16th Street was My Spot. It's wild how there are so many experts on DHP who KNOW EVERY ASPECT OF 80's Chicago - from the equiptment that was used to who made what track. Crazy dude.
