Congress's sweeping probe into performance enhancing drug use in baseball now seems more like a public feud between Roger Clemens and his ex-personal trainer Brian McNamee.

McNamee walked into the House's Rayburn office building this afternoon carrying seven-years old bloody syringes, vials and gauze pads. His lawyer's promised that this unseemly trash is the treasure proving his client truthfully accused Clemens of using steroids and human growth hormones.

McNamee presumably told Congressional investigators the same thing under oath this afternoon. Clemens responded by flying back to Washington today for an impromptu talk with House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Henry A. Waxman, D-Calif., and ranking Republican Tom Davis, R-Va.

i don't know, why would you save this, seems to me he is gonna have a problem proving juice and blood and he has a chain of custody problem too, of course he has access to rogers blood, but, why save it for seven years, sounds like an extortion deal gone wrong

I think its cuz Roger Clemens taped their phone conversation, broadcast it at a press conference and called McNamee a liar.

Clemens: "Check!"

McNamee: "no, Checkmate!"

Its called "CYA"

Clemens basically accused the man of perjury at a press conference. McNamee responded by playing High Joker

It was reported last month that he was holding evidence on Clemens from those days because he thought Clemens would turn on him if shit went south ( there were anti-steroid rumblings back then)

It looks like he was right

Bottom line is he says he says he saved it. The burden is on the defense to prove it's not Roger's blood. He can't fake Roger's blood can he? That's the beauty of DNA.

I get the whole CYA thing, but I still have questions about the whole thing. According to reports, the needles were kept in a garage. I mean if he felt that he might need this stuff for the future, would it not been better to have them in an enviroment where the quality of the "specimens" could be better controlled?

Another questin that kinda bugs me is if he was willing to expose Clemens and Petite, why didnt he present the physical evidence from beginning? If ya gonna throw someone under the bus, wouldnt it make sense to be sure the bus rolls over that person?

How do you know what he presented or said in the first place? Why say Clemens is a steroid user if he isnt and face jail time for lying about it? I can't wait to see what Petttite's testimony is. Will he be lying too?

I find it hard to believe that he told the truth about the other players (who have all pretty much admitted it), but would lie about Clemens. Doesn't make sense that he'd hang his friend up to dry for no reason like that. I'd have a real hard time believing Clemens denial if I were on a jury, especially if the physical evidence pans out.

Do you guys think it can be detected if the illegal substances was put into the syringes/needle after they were used on Clemens. Can it be detected if the dna is older than the substance? Just a theory.

Exactly. A lie like that with the chance to go to jail makes no sense. Clemens can deny all he wants. Rose never bet on baseball. Palmieri never took steroids. Neither did Jones. Until they finally admitted what they did. On another note. As big a Yankee I am, it sure seems like a lot of then were juicin' in the 90s and early 2000's. Should an asterisk be next to their championships.

I dont know what was said or presented in the first place. I only know what Ive read and heard on the radio and TV. And no where have I seen or heard anything about Macnamee telling anyone about having physical evidence to back his statements. As far as I am aware, this new information only came out after he was accused of perjury. We all know how the media is always quick to jump on any exploding story or parts of a story; being the station to announce Clemens as a user is big, but having the additional physical evidence to back it all up would be huge.

I dont think the dude is lying about injecting Clemens. I'm just thinking the whole OJ thing was not that long ago, and I vaguely remember all the scrutiny that was given to the dna testing the Forensics dept had to endure. And even though evidence was 99.9999999999991 accurate, OJ still got off because of a glove that did not fit.

Storing something as important as sharps in a garage is not very sound. And the timing of this new information just seems wierd to me. But as you said, I dont know what, when or how he presented this information.

Then why all this fuss?!

Because unfortnately, people think of baseball as some kind of puritanical romance novel instead of the billion dollar business it actually is......

With regard to Bonds, Clemens and, yes, those beloved Patriots, it should be innocent until proven guilty.

.....you can throw Mrs. Clemens, too, in that! DAMN!!!!!!!
